Abstract

Method, apparatus and computer program product for seamless communication resource transition are described herein. A user may wish to share an external communication resource within a group-based communication system. Settings may be provided allowing the user to more effectively share the external communication resource. The user may select the appropriate settings such that the external communication resource can be transmitted to the group-based communication system for display in accordance with the selected settings.

Claims (43)

1. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, perform a method for transmitting a communication resource from an external communication system to a group-based communication system, the method comprising:

causing display of a first user interface on a first computing device, the first user interface comprising a first visual representation of an external communication resource and a sharing affordance;

in response to detecting selection of the sharing affordance, causing display of a second user interface on the first computing device, wherein the second user interface comprises a plurality of settings for display of the external communication resource in the group-based communication system,

wherein the plurality of settings is determined based in part on a resource type of the external communication resource, and

wherein each setting of the plurality of settings is set to a recommended value based in part on the external communication resource; and

in response to detecting selection of the plurality of settings from a plurality of recommended settings and selection of the sharing affordance to transmit the external communication resource to the group-based communication system,

transmitting the external communication resource and the selected plurality of settings for display in the group-based communication system based on the selected plurality of settings.

2. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the external communication resource is an email communication resource.

3. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the second user interface comprises the first visual representation of the external communication resource displayed in accordance with the selected plurality of settings.

4. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of recommended settings comprises at least one of:

a comment parameter, an attachment parameter, an email notification parameter, and a group-based communication channel identifier parameter.

5. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein one of the plurality of settings includes a group-based communication channel identifier parameter for determining which of a plurality of group-based communication channels to display the first visual representation of the external communication resource within.

6. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the external communication resource is a messenger communication resource.

7. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises transmitting transition instructions from a resource transition server.

8. A method for transmitting a communication resource from an external communication system to a group-based communication system, comprising:

causing display of a first user interface on a first computing device, the first user interface comprising a first visual representation of an external communication resource and a sharing affordance;

in response to detecting selection of the sharing affordance, causing display of a second user interface on the first computing device, wherein the second user interface comprises a plurality of settings for display of the external communication resource in the group-based communication system,

wherein the plurality of settings is determined based in part on a resource type of the external communication resource, and

wherein each setting of the plurality of settings is set to a recommended value based in part on the external communication resource; and

in response to detecting selection of the plurality of settings from a plurality of recommended settings and selection of the sharing affordance to transmit the external communication resource to the group-based communication system,

transmitting the external communication resource and the selected plurality of settings for display in the group-based communication system based on the selected plurality of settings.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the external communication resource is an email communication resource.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the second user interface comprises the first visual representation of the external communication resource displayed in accordance with the selected plurality of settings.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of recommended settings comprises at least one of:

a comment parameter, an attachment parameter, an email notification parameter, and a group-based communication channel identifier parameter.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein one of the plurality of settings includes a group-based communication channel identifier parameter for determining which of a plurality of group-based communication channels to display the first visual representation of the external communication resource within.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the external communication resource is a messenger communication resource.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the method further comprises transmitting transition instructions from a resource transition server.

15. A system for transmitting a communication resource, comprising:

a group-based communication system; and

a first computing device, wherein the first computing device is programmed to:

cause display of a first user interface, the first user interface comprising a first visual representation of an external communication resource and a sharing affordance;

in response to detecting selection of the sharing affordance, cause display of a second user interface, wherein the second user interface comprises a plurality of settings for display of the external communication resource in the group-based communication system,

wherein the plurality of settings is determined based in part on a resource type of the external communication resource, and

wherein each setting of the plurality of settings is set to a recommended value based in part on the external communication resource; and

in response to detecting selection of the plurality of settings from a plurality of recommended settings and selection of the sharing affordance to transmit the external communication resource to the group-based communication system,

transmitting the external communication resource and the selected plurality of settings for display in the group-based communication system based on the selected plurality of settings.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the external communication resource is an email communication resource.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the second user interface comprises the first visual representation of the external communication resource displayed in accordance with the selected plurality of settings.

18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of recommended settings comprises at least one of:

a comment parameter, an attachment parameter, an email notification parameter, and a group-based communication channel identifier parameter.

19. The system of claim 15 , wherein one of the plurality of settings includes a group-based communication channel identifier parameter for determining which of a plurality of group-based communication channels to display the first visual representation of the external communication resource within.

20. The system of claim 15 , wherein the system further comprises a resource transition server further and wherein the system is further programmed to transmit transition instructions from the resource transition server.
