Compositions for enhancing bioavailability of pharmaceuticals, supplements and ingested substances
The present invention relates to compositions and methods for enhancing bioavailability of health-promoting substances, such as pharmaceuticals and nutritional supplements. The subject invention utilizes an adjuvant composition comprising one or more microbial-produced biosurfactants and/or isoforms thereof, to enhance bioavailability of health-promoting substances and to reduce the effective dosage that is required.
1. A method for enhancing the bioavailability of a pharmaceutical, the method comprising orally administering to a subject, a composition comprising said pharmaceutical and a bioavailability-enhancing amount of a purified sophorolipid, wherein at least 90% by weight of said purified sophorolipid is in a lactonic form, and
wherein said pharmaceutical is at least one of antivirals, pain-relievers, and anti-inflammatory compounds.
2. The adjuvant composition of claim 1 , wherein said pharmaceutical is acyclovir, ribavirin, valacyclovir, or famciclovir.
3. The adjuvant composition of claim 1 , wherein said pharmaceutical is ibuprofen or aspirin.
