Abstract

Golf ball comprising at least one layer that is comprised of an air-cured elastomer composition comprising an elastomer and an organic peroxide curing agent.

Claims (13)

1. A golf ball comprising an inner core layer and an outer cover layer, wherein the inner core layer has a diameter of 1.25 inches or less and is formed from an air-cured elastomer composition, the air-cured elastomer composition comprising:

an elastomer;

from 0.25 phr to 3.5 phr of an organic peroxide formulation comprising at least one organic peroxide and a blend of at least one nitride-containing compound, at least one quinone-containing compound, and at least one sulfur-containing compound, wherein the blend does not contain any bis-maleimide, tri-maleimide, and poly-maleimide, bis-citraconimide, tri-citraconimide, and poly-citraconimide;

from 10 phr to 50 phr of zinc diacrylate;

from 3 phr to 25 phr of zinc oxide; and

from 0.1 phr to 5.0 phr of zinc pentachlorothiophenol.

2. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the air-cured elastomer composition additionally comprises antioxidant in an amount of 2.0 phr or less, and the ratio of the amount of antioxidant to the amount of organic peroxide curing agent is from 0.30 to 5.

3. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the air-cured elastomer composition comprises from 0.25 phr to 2.5 phr of the organic peroxide formulation.

4. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the elastomer of the air-cured elastomer composition is polybutadiene or a rubber blend including at least 40 wt % polybutadiene.

5. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the air-cured elastomer composition has a maximum cure temperature of from 290° F. to 365° F.

6. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the air-cured elastomer composition has a maximum cure temperature of from 290° F. to 335° F.

7. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the air-cured elastomer composition has a maximum cure temperature of from 305° F. to 320° F.

8. The golf ball of claim 7 , wherein the air-cured elastomer composition has a total cure time of from 10 minutes to 30 minutes.
