Abstract

A system, method and computer readable media automatically highlights an unhealthy condition of a viewer. A device, e.g., set-top box, operatively connects to a network and a display. The set-top-box is adapted to output a program to a viewer watching the display. The set-top-box operatively com1ects through a wireless protocol to one or more wearable health monitoring devices that monitor one or more health readings associated with the viewer. The set-top-box outputs an alert to the viewer during the program if a health reading falls within a dangerous range. Advantageously, the alert is delivered through an EPG and may comprise pausing/stopping the program, and/or highlighting the alert on the display for the viewer's safety.

Claims (44)

1. An apparatus for automatically highlighting an unhealthy condition, comprising:

a device operatively connected to a network and a display, wherein the device is adapted to output a program to a viewer watching the display;

the device being operatively connected through a wireless protocol to one or more wearable health monitoring devices;

the device being operative to monitor a health status of the viewer during the program based on information received from the one or more wearable health monitoring devices;

the device being operative to determine an abnormal condition based on the monitoring the health status, wherein the information comprises a health abnormal type number associated with the abnormal condition; and

the device operative to generate a health monitor indicator for the program in a program listing in an electronic program guide (EPG) based on the abnormal condition.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

the device being operative to provide an alert, based on the abnormal condition, in the EPG presented on the display, wherein the alert is delivered through the EPG.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the program is associated with a rating system wherein at least one rating indicates that the program includes content that may excite viewers, and the device's connectivity to the wearable health monitoring device is automatic.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

the device being operative to provide an alert in an EPG presented on the display, wherein the alert comprises stopping the program.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the alert comprises a highlight on the display during the program.

6. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the device transmits the alert to one or more other devices.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

the device being operative to provide an alert in an EPG presented on the display, wherein the alert comprises a highlight on the display during the program.

8. A method for automatically highlighting an unhealthy condition comprising:

connecting a device to a network and a display, wherein the device is adapted to output a program to a viewer watching the display;

connecting the device through a wireless protocol to one or more wearable health monitoring devices;

monitoring, by the device, a health status of the viewer during the program based on information received from the one or more wearable health monitoring devices;

the device being operative to determine an abnormal condition based on the monitoring the health status, wherein the information comprises a health abnormal type number associated with the abnormal condition; and

generating, by the device, a health monitor indicator in a program listing for the program in an electronic program guide (EPG) based on the abnormal condition.

9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

providing an alert in the EPG presented on the display, wherein the alert is delivered through the EPG.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the program is associated with a rating system wherein at least one rating indicates that the program includes content that may excite viewers, and the device's connectivity to the wearable health monitoring device is automatic.

11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

providing an alert, based on the abnormal condition, in an EPG presented on the display, wherein the alert comprises stopping the program.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the alert comprises a highlight on the display during the program.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the device transmits the alert to one or more other devices.

14. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

providing an alert in an EPG presented on the display, wherein the alert comprises a highlight on the display during the program.

15. One or more non-transitory computer readable media having instructions operable to cause one or more processors to perform one or more operations comprising:

connecting a device to a network and a display, wherein the device is adapted to output a program to a viewer watching the display;

connecting the device through a wireless protocol to one or more wearable health monitoring devices that monitor one or more health readings associated with the viewer;

monitoring, by the device, a health status of the viewer during the program based on information received from the one or more wearable health monitoring devices;

the device being operative to determine an abnormal condition based on the monitoring the health status, wherein the information comprises a health abnormal type number associated with the abnormal condition; and

generating, by the device, a health monitor indicator in a program listing for the program in an electronic program guide (EPG) based on determining the abnormal condition.

16. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further operable to cause the one or more processors to perform the one or more operations further comprising:

providing an alert, based on the abnormal condition, in the EPG presented on the display, wherein the alert is delivered through the EPG.

17. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 15 , wherein the program is associated with a rating system wherein at least one rating indicates that the program includes content that may excite viewers, and the device's connectivity to the wearable health monitoring device is automatic.

18. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further operable to cause the one or more processors to perform the one or more operations further comprising:

providing an alert in an EPG presented on the display, wherein the alert comprises stopping the program.

19. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 18 , wherein the device transmits the alert to one or more other devices.

20. The non-transitory computer readable media of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further operable to cause the one or more processors to perform the one or more operations further comprising:

providing an alert on the display, wherein the alert comprises a highlight on the display during the program.
