Abstract

A fiber optic distribution terminal includes a cable spool rotatably disposed within an enclosure; an optical power splitter and a termination region carried by the cable spool; an optical cable deployable from the enclosure by rotating the cable spool by pulling on a connectorized end of the optical cable; and splitter pigtails extending between the optical power splitter and the termination region. One fiber of the optical cable extending between the connectorized end and the splitter input. The other fibers of the optical cable extend to a multi-fiber adapter.

Claims (9)

1. A fiber optic distribution terminal comprising:

an enclosure including a base and a cover, the enclosure being environmentally sealed, the cover being moveable relative to the base between an open position and a closed position, the base defining pass-through locations for allowing optical fibers to be routed into the enclosure;

a plurality of single-fiber optical adapters mounted within the enclosure;

at least one multi-fiber optical adapter mounted within the enclosure;

the single-fiber optical adapters and the at least one multi-fiber optical adapter being mounted to a carrier that mounts within the base of the enclosure;

an optical fiber assembly including a plurality of optical fibers each extending between a respective first end and a respective second end, the first ends of the optical fibers being terminated at a first multi-fiber connector of the optical fiber assembly, the second end of at least one of the optical fibers being optically coupled to a single-fiber connector of the optical fiber assembly and not terminated at a second multi-fiber connector of the optical fiber assembly, the second end of others of the optical fibers being terminated at the second multi-fiber connector of the optical fiber assembly, the others of the optical fibers being indexed between the first and second multi-fiber connectors;

wherein when the optical fiber assembly is installed with respect to the enclosure the optical fiber assembly passes through one of the pass-through locations of the base such that the second multi-fiber connector and the single-fiber connector are located inside the enclosure with the single-fiber connector plugging into a port of one of the single-fiber optical adapters and the second multi-fiber connector plugging into a port of the multi-fiber optical adapter.

2. The fiber optic distribution terminal of claim 1 , wherein the at least one multi-fiber optical adapter includes only one multi-fiber optical adapter.

3. The fiber optic distribution terminal of claim 1 , wherein at least one optical fiber couples to an input of an optical power splitter which splits signals from the input of the optical power splitter onto a plurality of splitter pigtails having connectorized ends routed to the single-fiber optical adapters, wherein one of the connectorized ends includes the single-fiber connector.
