Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a telecommunications jack including a housing having a port for receiving a plug. The jack also includes a plurality of contact springs adapted to make electrical contact with the plug when the plug is inserted into the port of the housing, and a plurality of wire termination contacts for terminating wires to the jack. The jack further includes a circuit board that electrically connects the contact springs to the wire termination contacts. The circuit board includes a multi-zone crosstalk compensation arrangement for reducing crosstalk at the jack.

Claims (29)

1. A telecommunications device adapted to receive a plug, the telecommunications device having at least one circuit board, the telecommunications device comprising:

a housing defining a port for receiving the plug;

first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth consecutively arranged contact springs adapted to make electrical contact with the plug when the plug is inserted into the port of the housing;

first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth wire termination contacts for terminating wires to the device;

first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth conductive paths that respectively electrically connect the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth contact springs to the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth wire termination contacts;

the fourth and fifth contact spring, the fourth and fifth wire termination contact and the fourth and fifth conductive path corresponding to a first wire pair;

the first and second contact spring, the first and second wire termination contact and the first and second conductive path corresponding to a second wire pair;

the third and sixth contact spring, the third and sixth wire termination contact and the third and sixth conductive path corresponding to a third wire pair;

the seventh and eighth contact spring, the seventh and eighth wire termination contact and the seventh and eighth conductive path corresponding to a fourth wire pair;

the telecommunications device including a cross-talk compensation arrangement defining multiple zones of capacitive coupling between the first and third wire pairs;

the third, fourth, fifth and sixth conductive paths being configured to reduce return loss.

2. The telecommunications device of claim 1 , wherein an impedance of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth conductive paths is greater than 100 Ohms.

3. The telecommunications device of claim 1 , wherein an impedance of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth conductive paths is greater than 120 Ohms.

4. The telecommunications device of claim 1 , wherein an impedance of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth conductive paths is greater than 150 Ohms.

5. The telecommunications device of claim 1 , wherein an impedance of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth conductive paths is greater than 175 Ohms.

6. The telecommunications device of claim 1 , wherein an impedance of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth conductive paths is greater than 200 Ohms.

7. The telecommunications device of claim 1 , wherein a transverse cross-sectional area of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth conductive paths is in the range of 13-16 mils.

8. The telecommunications device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth conductive paths is at least one and a half times as large as a straight line distance between their respective contact springs and wire termination contacts.

9. The telecommunications device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth conductive paths is at least two times as large as a straight line distance between their respective contact springs and wire termination contacts.
