Abstract

Examples of detecting whether a device meets an enrollment level are disclosed. In one case, a method for providing access to an application on a client device includes receiving a request to access an application from the client device, determining an enrollment level associated with the application, and determining that multi-factor authentication is required for access to the application on the client device based on the enrollment level associated with the application. The method can also include initiating multi-factor authentication on the client device before access to the application is permitted. The method can also include determining that multi-factor authentication is successful on the client device, transmitting a management component to the client device, and installing the management component on the client device for enrollment as a managed device with a management service.

Claims (61)

1. A method for providing access to an application on a client device, comprising:

receiving, from the client device, a request to access an application;

determining an enrollment level associated with the application, wherein the enrollment level indicates a level of administrative control over the client device for access to the application, wherein the level of administrative control comprises one of a plurality of levels by a management service that remotely manages the client device;

causing the client device to install a management component on the client device in response to the enrollment level indicating the installation of the application requires a specified degree of control over the client device, wherein the management component initiates enrollment of the client device as a managed device with the management service;

determining that multi-factor authentication is required for access to the application on the client device based on the enrollment level associated with the application; and

initiating multi-factor authentication on the client device.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting a request to the client device for an acceptance of an enrollment notice, wherein:

the enrollment notice is displayed on the client device; and

the enrollment notice specifies that authorization to access the application is based on enrolling the client device as a managed device with a management service.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining that multi-factor authentication is successful on the client device;

transmitting a management component to the client device; and

installing the management component on the client device for enrollment of the client device as a managed device with a management service.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising providing access to the application on the client device after installation of the management component.

5. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

receiving a user credential upon installation of the management component;

authenticating the user credential; and

completing enrollment of the client device with a management service.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting a request to enroll the client device with a volume licensing program associated with an application repository.

7. A system for providing access to an application on a client device, comprising:

at least one computing device; and

a memory device comprising computer-readable instructions stored thereon, the computer-readable instructions, when executed by the at least one computing device, directing the at least one computing device to at least:

receive a request to access an application from the client device;

determine an enrollment level associated with the application, wherein the enrollment level indicates a level of administrative control over the client device for access to the application, wherein the level of administrative control comprises one of a plurality of levels by a management service that remotely manages the client device;

cause the client device to install a management component on the client device in response to the enrollment level indicating the installation of the application requires a specified degree of control over the client device, wherein the management component initiates enrollment of the client device as a managed device with the management service;

determine that multi-factor authentication is required for access to the application on the client device based on the enrollment level associated with the application; and

initiate multi-factor authentication on the client device.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the computer-readable instructions further direct the at least one computing device to at least transmit a request to the client device for an acceptance of an enrollment notice;

the enrollment notice is displayed on the client device; and

the enrollment notice specifies that authorization to access the application is based on enrolling the client device as a managed device with a management service.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein the computer-readable instructions further direct the at least one computing device to at least:

determine that multi-factor authentication is successful on the client device;

transmit a management component to the client device; and

install the management component on the client device for enrollment of the client device as a managed device with a management service.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the computer-readable instructions further direct the at least one computing device to at least provide access to the application on the client device after installation of the management component.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the computer-readable instructions further direct the at least one computing device to at least:

receive a user credential upon installation of the management component;

authenticate the user credential; and

complete enrollment of the client device with a management service.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein the computer-readable instructions further direct the at least one computing device to at least transmit a request to enroll the client device with a volume licensing program associated with an application repository.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable medium embodying computer-readable instructions thereon for providing access to an application on a client device that, when executed by at least one computing device, direct the at least one computing device to at least:

receive a request to access an application from the client device;

determine an enrollment level associated with the application, wherein the enrollment level indicates a level of administrative control over the client device for access to the application in response to the enrollment level indicating the installation of the application requires a specified degree of control over the client device, wherein the level of administrative control comprises one of a plurality of levels by a management service that remotely manages the client device;

cause the client device to install a management component on the client device, wherein the management component initiates enrollment of the client device as a managed device with the management service;

determine that multi-factor authentication is required for access to the application on the client device based on the enrollment level associated with the application; and

initiate multi-factor authentication on the client device.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the computer-readable instructions further direct the at least one computing device to at least transmit a request to the client device for an acceptance of an enrollment notice;

the enrollment notice is displayed on the client device; and

the enrollment notice specifies that authorization to access the application is based on enrolling the client device as a managed device with a management service.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer-readable instructions further direct the at least one computing device to at least:

determine that multi-factor authentication is successful on the client device;

transmit a management component to the client device; and

install the management component on the client device for enrollment of the client device as a managed device with a management service.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the computer-readable instructions further direct the at least one computing device to at least:

receive a user credential upon installation of the management component;

authenticate the user credential; and

complete enrollment of the client device with a management service.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer-readable instructions further direct the at least one computing device to at least transmit a request to enroll the client device with a volume licensing program associated with an application repository.
