Abstract

A liquid crystal display device includes a TFT substrate having a display region where pixels each having a TFT and a pixel electrode are formed in a matrix, a counter substrate having a display region where color filters of three colors are formed in a matrix, the TFT substrate and the counter substrate being bonded together with a sealing material in a seal portion at a periphery, and liquid crystal sealed between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate by the seal material. In the display region, a first insulation film, a first alignment film, a first columnar spacer, an overcoat film, a first color filter among the color filters of three colors are stacked in this order between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate.

Claims (26)

1. A display device comprising:

a TFT substrate including a plurality of pixels each having a thin film transistor which are located in a display region;

a counter substrate having color filters and protrusions; and

a sealing material bonding between the TFT substrate and the counter substrate, wherein

the color filters include a first portion which is separated from the color filters in the display region and located in the peripheral region,

the first portion are located along an extending direction of the sealing material,

the protrusions include first protrusions and a second protrusion which are in a peripheral region surrounding the display region,

the first protrusions and the second protrusion are overlapped with the sealing material,

the first protrusions are located along the extending direction of the sealing material and separated from each other,

the second protrusion is linearly formed along the extending direction of the sealing material,

the first protrusions and the second protrusion do not overlap each other, and

the second protrusion is closer to the display region than the first portion.

2. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the sealing material has a portion that overlaps the second protrusion and is thinner than the other portion of the sealing material.

3. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the color filters include a second portion which is separated from the color filters in the display region and located in the peripheral region, and

the second portion is separated from the first portion.

4. The display device according to claim 3 , wherein

the first portion overlaps one of the first protrusions in a sectional view, and

the second portion overlaps another one of the first protrusions in the sectional view.

5. The display device according to claim 2 , wherein

the portion of the sealing material is located between the first portion and the second portion.

6. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the second protrusion is located between the first protrusions.

7. The display device according to claim 1 , wherein

the first protrusions are in contact with the TFT substrate.
