Abstract

A golf club head incudes a body, a pocket in the body and defining a recessed channel, and a weight assembly. The body includes a striking face and a sole. The weight assembly includes a weight at least partially disposed within the recessed channel and configured to move therein and a fastener configured to releasably secure the weight within the recessed channel.

Claims (46)

1 . A golf club head, comprising:

a body comprising:

a striking face having a lower leading edge, and

a sole extending from the lower leading edge,

wherein the body comprises a first material;

a pocket in the body, forming a recessed channel, and comprising a second material different from the first material; and

a weight assembly comprising:

a weight at least partially disposed within the recessed channel and configured to move therein, and

a fastener configured to releasably secure the weight within the recessed channel,

wherein the second material is less in density than the first material,

wherein the weight assembly further comprises a cover adapted to releasably secure the weight within the recessed channel, and the fastener couples the cover to the body and is selectively movable along a fastener axis, and

wherein the cover is positionable in at least an unlocked configuration whereby the cover is raised at least partially out of the recessed channel and the weight is selectively movable within the recessed channel, and a locked configuration whereby the cover is at least partially disposed within the recessed channel and the weight is secured within the recessed channel.

2 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the second material comprises a polymer.

3 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the pocket is at least partially secured to the body by a pocket fastener.

4 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight is engaged with the cover so as to move with the cover between the locked configuration and the unlocked configuration.

5 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight remains in the recessed channel when the cover moves between the locked configuration and the unlocked configuration.

6 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein between about 0% and about 30% of an outer surface of the weight is visible in the locked configuration.

7 . A golf club head, comprising:

a body comprising:

a striking face having a lower leading edge, and

a sole extending from the lower leading edge;

a pocket in the body, forming a recessed channel, and being at least partially secured to the body by a first pocket fastener; and

a weight assembly comprising:

a weight at least partially disposed within the recessed channel and configured to move therein, and

a fastener adapted to retain the weight in the recessed channel,

wherein the pocket is further at least partially secured to the body by an epoxy, and

wherein the weight assembly further comprises a cover at least partially covering the recessed channel, and the fastener couples the cover to the body and is adapted to retain the weight in the recessed channel only indirectly by the cover.

8 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein the first pocket fastener secures a heel end of the pocket to the body, and the pocket is further at least partially secured to the body by a second pocket fastener that secures a toe end of the pocket to the body.

9 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein the pocket is at least partially inserted into a cavity in the body through a pocket hole in the body.

10 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein the first pocket fastener comprises a head at a first end of the first pocket fastener, a tip at a second end of the first pocket fastener, and a shaft extending towards an interior of the body from the head to the tip.

11 . The golf club head of claim 7 , wherein the first pocket fastener comprises a head at a first end of the first pocket fastener, a tip at a second end of the first pocket fastener, and a shaft extending towards an exterior of the body from the head to the tip.

12 . A golf club head, comprising:

a body comprising:

a striking face having a lower leading edge, and

a sole extending from the lower leading edge;

a pocket forming a recessed channel and being at least partially inserted into a cavity in the body through a pocket hole in the body; and

a weight assembly comprising:

a weight at least partially disposed within the recessed channel and configured to move therein, and

a fastener adapted to retain the weight in the recessed channel,

wherein the pocket hole is in the sole, and the pocket is at least partially inserted into the cavity of the body through the sole, and

wherein the weight assembly further comprises a cover at least partially covering the recessed channel, and the fastener couples the cover to the body and is adapted to retain the weight in the recessed channel only indirectly by the cover.

13 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the golf club head is a metal wood type golf club head or a hybrid type golf club head.

14 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the pocket is different in material than a portion of the body adjacent to the pocket.

15 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the pocket comprises a protrusion adjacent to the recessed channel and at either a heel end of the pocket or at a toe end of the pocket, and

wherein the body has an indent adjacent to the pocket hole that is shaped and sized to receive the protrusion of the pocket.

16 . The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein the pocket is at least partially secured to the body by a pocket fastener penetrating at least partially through the protrusion and at least partially through the body.
