Abstract

A golf club head including an insert is disclosed herein. In accordance with the presently disclosed technology, the golf club head may include a body. The body may include a face, a crown, a first sole portion, a leading edge, a second sole portion, a trailing edge, and a sole opening between the first sole portion and the second sole portion. The golf club head may include an insert to fit into the sole opening that includes a sole insert and a frontal sole insert. The sole insert may be detachably connected to the sole portion, and the frontal sole insert may be in contact with at least a faceward surface of the sole insert. The frontal sole insert may separate the sole insert from the face.

Claims (47)

1 . A golf club head comprising:

a body comprising:

a face;

a crown extending backward from a top of the face;

a first sole portion extending a first sole distance backward from a bottom of the face;

a leading edge defined as a first boundary between the face and the first sole portion;

a second sole portion extending forward a second sole distance from a back of the crown;

a trailing edge defined as a second boundary between the back of the crown and the second sole portion; and

a sole opening between the first sole portion and the second sole portion exposing an interior cavity of the golf club head; and

an insert to fit into the sole opening, wherein the insert comprises:

a sole insert detachably connected to the second sole portion, wherein the sole insert covers at least a part of the second sole portion; and

a frontal sole insert in contact with at least a faceward surface of the sole insert, wherein the frontal sole insert separates the sole insert from the face, wherein the frontal sole insert is removably couplable to the sole insert.

2 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the second sole portion is substantially planar, and wherein the second sole portion is offset above the first sole portion by an offset distance; and wherein the frontal sole insert separates the second sole portion from the face.

3 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the first sole portion comprises a vertical portion separated from the face by a first distance, and wherein the vertical portion extends from the first sole portion within the interior cavity to the crown.

4 . The golf club head of claim 3 , wherein the frontal sole insert is in contact with a backward surface of the vertical portion, and wherein the frontal sole insert separates the sole insert and the second sole portion from the vertical portion.

5 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the second sole portion comprises a sole through hole to receive a first part of a fastener, wherein the sole insert comprises an insert through hole to receive a second part of the fastener, and wherein the golf club head further comprises the fastener.

6 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein a top surface of the sole insert is substantially planar.

7 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the sole insert comprises a first sole piece, and wherein the first sole piece comprises a variable thickness.

8 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the sole insert comprises a weight.

9 . The golf club head of claim 8 , wherein the weight is integrated into the sole insert.

10 . The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the sole insert comprises a post hole, and wherein the frontal sole insert comprises a post to fit into the post hole.

11 . A golf club head comprising:

a body comprising:

a face;

a crown extending backward from a top of the face;

a first sole portion extending backward from a bottom of the face a first sole distance, wherein the first sole portion is substantially planar;

a second sole portion extending forward from a back of the crown a second sole distance, wherein the second sole portion is substantially planar, and wherein the second sole portion is offset above the first sole portion by an offset distance; and

a sole opening between the first sole portion and the second sole portion exposing an interior cavity of the golf club head; and

an insert to fit into the sole opening, wherein the insert comprises:

a sole insert detachably connected to the second sole portion, wherein the sole insert covers at least a part of the second sole portion, wherein the sole insert comprises a first sole piece, and wherein the first sole piece comprises a variable thickness; and

a frontal sole insert in contact with at least a faceward surface of the sole insert, wherein the frontal sole insert separates the sole insert from the face.

12 . The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the first sole portion comprises a vertical portion separated from the face by a first distance, and wherein the vertical portion extends from the first sole portion within the interior cavity to the crown.

13 . The golf club head of claim 12 , wherein the frontal sole insert is in contact with a backward surface of the vertical portion, and wherein the frontal sole insert separates the sole insert and the second sole portion from the vertical portion.

14 . The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the second sole portion comprises a sole through hole to receive a first part of a fastener, wherein the sole insert comprises an insert through hole to receive a second part of the fastener, and wherein the golf club head further comprises the fastener.

15 . The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein a top surface of the sole insert is substantially planar.

16 . The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the sole insert comprises a weight.

17 . The golf club head of claim 16 , wherein the weight is integrated into the sole insert.

18 . A golf club head comprising:

a body comprising:

a face;

a crown extending backward from a top of the face;

a first sole portion extending backward from a bottom of the face a first sole distance;

a second sole portion extending forward from a back of the crown a second sole distance; and

a sole opening between the first sole portion and the second sole portion exposing an interior cavity of the golf club head; and
