Abstract

A method for reducing the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles, treating skin inflammation, or reducing the appearance of reddened or erythemic skin is disclosed. The method can include applying to skin having a fine line or wrinkle, having inflammation, or having a reddened or erythymic appearance a composition that includes tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate and Acmella oleracea extract, wherein application of the composition to the skin reduces the appearance of the fine line or wrinkle, treats skin inflammation, or reduces the appearance of the reddened or erythemic skin.

Claims (17)

1 . A method for increasing skin barrier function, the method comprising applying to skin composition comprising:

0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate; and

0.0001 wt. % to 5 wt. % Acmella oleracea extract,

wherein application of the composition to the skin increases skin barrier function.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the Acmella oleracea extract is a hydroethanolic flower, leaf, or stem extract or is an extract of dried flower, stem, or leaf.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is an emulsion.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is an oil-in-water emulsion.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a gel.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is a serum.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is an aqueous solution or an aqueous-alcoholic solution.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied to the fine line or wrinkle on the skin, and wherein application of the composition reduces the appearance of the fine line or wrinkle.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied to reddened or erythemic skin, and wherein application of the composition reduces the appearance of the reddened or erythemic skin.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition is applied to inflamed skin, and wherein application of the composition treats the inflamed skin.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein topical application of the composition to the skin increases skin firmness.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein topical application of the composition to the skin increases collagen expression in the skin.

13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein topical application of the composition to the skin reduces matrix metalloproteinase 9 activity in the skin.

14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein topical application of the composition to the skin reduces IL-6 activity in the skin.
