Abstract

A steep slope roofing panel system includes an underlayment and a plurality of roofing panels installed atop the underlayment. The panels may be installed to provide both protection from the environment and watershedding. Alternatively, the panels and the underlayment may share the watershedding functions of the roof, with one as a primary watershedding component and the other as an auxiliary watershedding component. The roofing system may be custom manufactured off-site based upon predetermined measurements and characteristics of a roof and its protrusions. Alternatively, the roofing system may be custom manufactured at the job site based upon such measurements and characteristics. Each panel may be assigned to a location on the roof and may include imprinted instructions regarding cutting and/or bending the panel to form flashing, drip edges, or other features, as well as the panel's location and installation sequence on the roof.

Claims (25)

1 . A roof system comprising:

a deck having a slope of at least 2:12;

an underlayment located on the deck;

a plurality of metal roofing panels configured to be installed along the deck and on top of the underlayment,

wherein each metal roofing panel of the plurality of metal roofing panels comprises:

an upper surface;

a lower surface;

a plurality of peripheral edges, including an upper edge, a lower edge, a right side edge, and a left side edge; and

a sealant or adhesive material positioned adjacent to at least one of the right side edge, the left side edge, or any combination thereof;

wherein the plurality of metal roofing panels is configured to be installed on the deck with a left side edge of a first metal roofing panel lying flat against a right side edge of a second metal roofing panel in a horizontal same course of metal roofing panels; and

wherein, when the first and second metal roofing panels are installed on the deck, the sealant or adhesive material of at least one of the first metal roofing panel, the second metal roofing panel, or any combination thereof is disposed along an area of overlap between the lower surface of the first metal roofing panel and the upper surface of the second metal roofing panel so as to attach the lower surface of the first metal roofing panel to the upper surface of the second metal roofing panel along the area of overlap.

2 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the plurality of metal roofing panels comprises installation instructions applied along at least one of the upper surface, the lower surface, or any combination thereof of each of the at least a portion of the plurality of metal roofing panels.

3 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein the sealant or adhesive material comprises at least one self-seal strip positioned along the upper surface of each metal roofing panel adjacent to the right side edge thereof.

4 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein the sealant or adhesive material comprises at least one self-seal strip positioned along the lower surface of each metal roofing panel.

5 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the plurality of metal roofing panels comprise a quantity of metal roofing panels formed with pre-determined standard roofing panel configurations.

6 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein the underlayment comprises a weather resistant material configured to divert water from the deck.

7 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the plurality of metal roofing panels include a water shedding feature along at least one of the upper edge or the lower edge thereof.

8 . The roof system of claim 2 , wherein at least some of the installation instructions comprise at least one of a map, a diagram, directions, an indicator, or any combination thereof.

9 . The roof system of claim 2 , wherein the installation instructions are configured to instruct an installer as to a location of each metal roofing panel along the deck; positioning of each metal roofing panel or sets of metal roofing panels along the deck; an installation order of the plurality of metal roofing panels; an assigned roof plane for installation of the plurality of metal roofing panels; horizontal or vertical offsets of the plurality of metal roofing panels; placement of fasteners for securing a metal roofing panel to an adjacent metal roofing panel; bending, cutting, or manipulating portions of the plurality of metal roofing panels for interaction with roof obstructions; or any combination thereof.

10 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein the upper surface and the lower surface between the right side edge and the left side edge of each metal roofing panel are substantially flat.

11 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein the upper surface and the lower surface along each of the right side edge and the left side edge of each metal roofing panel are substantially flat.

12 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein the sealant or adhesive material comprises at least two self-seal strips positioned along the lower surface of each metal roofing panel.

13 . The roof system of claim 12 , wherein the at least two self-seal strips are substantially perpendicular.

14 . The roof system of claim 1 , wherein the sealant or adhesive material comprises at least two self-seal strips positioned along the upper surface of each metal roofing panel.

15 . The roof system of claim 14 , wherein the at least two self-seal strips are substantially perpendicular.
