Abstract

The present invention includes an apparatus and a method for retaining eyeglasses on a remote panel with a holding element positioned on the remote panel and a temple element positioned on the eyeglasses.

Claims (42)

1 . An arrangement for resisting removal of a pair of eyeglasses from a panel of a garment, comprising:

a first eyeglasses retainer comprising:

a first holding member, at least a portion of the first holding member configured to be disposed within a garment pocket and abutting an outer surface of the garment panel facing the interior of the garment pocket, the first holding member positionable within the garment pocket separately from the pair of eyeglasses; and

a second holding member, at least a portion of the second holding member configured to be disposed outside the garment pocket and abutting an outer surface of the garment panel facing outside of the garment pocket, the second holding member positionable outside the garment pocket separately from the pair of eyeglasses;

wherein one or both of the first and second holding elements comprises a magnet;

wherein the first and second holding members are configured to allow placement in first relative positions on the garment panel, the first relative positions comprising the first and second holding members magnetically attracting together against the garment panel to resist movement of at least a portion of the first and second holding members relative to the garment panel;

wherein the first and second holding members are configured to allow their placement in second relative positions, the second relative positions comprising at least one of the first and second holding members not being magnetically attracted to the other member such that at least one of the first and second holding members does not abut an outer surface of the garment panel; and

a retaining member configured to be secured to or comprising at least a portion of the eyeglasses to be retained, wherein the retaining member is magnetically attracted to one or both of the first and second holding members positioned in the first relative positions on the garment panel, such that the first eyeglass retainer resists removal of the eyeglasses from the garment pocket.

2 . The arrangement of claim 1 , further comprising a length of flexible material secured between the first and second holding members and wherein the length of flexible material is configured to position the first and second holding members on opposite sides of the garment panel.

3 . The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the first and second holding members are configured to be disposed adjacent to an opening of the garment pocket.

4 . The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the garment panel forms a closed end of the pocket and wherein the first and second holding members are configured to be disposed on the garment panel adjacent the closed end of the pocket.

5 . The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the retaining member comprises a magnet.

6 . The arrangement of claim 1 , further comprising a pair of eyeglasses of which the retaining member comprises at least a portion or to which the retaining member is secured.

7 . The arrangement of claim 6 , wherein the retaining member is secured to or comprises at least a portion of a temple member of the eyeglasses.

8 . The arrangement of claim 7 , wherein the temple member is foldable over the garment panel and at least a portion of the retaining member is configured to be disposed outside of the garment pocket.

9 . The arrangement of claim 7 , wherein the temple member is foldable over the garment panel and at least a portion of the retaining member is configured to be disposed inside of the garment pocket.

10 . The arrangement of claim 7 , wherein the temple member comprises a hinged end, and wherein at least a portion of the retaining member is disposed adjacent to the hinged end of the temple member.

The arrangement of claim 7 , wherein the retaining member is secured to or comprises at least a portion of a temple member of the eyeglasses, the temple member comprising an unhinged end, and wherein at least a portion of the retaining member is disposed adjacent to the unhinged end of the temple member.

12 . The arrangement claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the retaining member is disposed adjacent to one end of the eyeglasses.

13 . The arrangement of claim 1 , wherein the surface of the first holding member has a friction surface comprising rubber contacting the eyeglasses or the retaining member.

14 . The arrangement of claim 1 , further comprising a second eyeglasses retaining arrangement, the second eyeglasses retaining arrangement comprising:

a third holding member, at least a portion of the third holding member disposed within the garment pocket and abutting an outer surface of the garment panel facing the interior of the garment pocket, the third holding member positionable within the pocket separately from the pair of eyeglasses;

a fourth holding member, at least a portion of the fourth holding member disposed outside the garment pocket and abutting an outer surface of the garment panel facing outside of the garment pocket, the fourth holding member positionable outside the pocket separately from the pair of eyeglasses;

wherein the third and fourth holding members are configured to allow placement in first relative positions on the garment panel, the first relative positions comprising the third and fourth holding members magnetically attracting together against the garment panel to resist movement of at least a portion of the third and fourth holding members relative to the garment panel; and

wherein the third and fourth holding members are configured to allow their placement in second relative positions, the second relative positions comprising at least one of the third and fourth holding members not being magnetically attracted to the other such that at least one of the third and fourth holding members does not abut an outer surface of the garment panel.

The arrangement of claim 14 , further comprising a second retaining member configured to be secured to or comprised in a portion of the eyeglasses to be retained, wherein the second retaining member is magnetically attracted to one or both of the third and fourth holding members of the second eyeglass retainer positioned in the first relative positions on the garment panel such that the second eyeglass retainer resists removal of the eyeglasses from the garment pocket.

16 . A method of retaining a pair of eyeglasses within a panel of a garment, comprising:

placing a first holding member separately from the pair of eyeglasses within a garment pocket in a first position such that the first holding member is abutting a surface of the outside garment panel facing the interior of the garment pocket, wherein the first holding member is removable from the outside garment panel;

placing a second holding member separately from the pair of eyeglasses outside the garment pocket in a first position such that the second holding member is abutting a surface of the outside garment panel facing outside the garment pocket, wherein the second holding member is removable from the outside garment panel;

wherein one or both of the first and second holding elements comprises a magnet configured such that by the placing of the first and second holding members in their respective first positions on the outside garment panel, the first and second holding members are magnetically attracted to each other and against oppositely facing surfaces of the outside garment panel with a first magnetic attractive force, such that the first magnetic force prevents movement of the first and second holding members from their respective first positions on the outside garment panel; and

placing at least a magnetically attractive portion of pair of eyeglasses within the garment pocket, the magnetically attractive portion of the eyeglasses comprising or having secured thereto a retaining member comprising material magnetically attracted to one or both of the first and second holding members, such that a second magnetic attractive force between the magnetically attractive portion of the pair of eyeglasses and one or both of the first and second holding members in their respective first positions on the outside garment panel magnetically retains the eyeglasses within the garment pocket.

17 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

providing on at least one of the first holding member and the second holding member a friction surface comprising rubber-like material contacting and frictionally engaging the eyeglasses or the retaining member.

18 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

providing a length of flexible material secured between the first and second holding members and wherein the length of flexible material is configured to position the first and second holding members on opposite sides of the garment panel.

19 . A method of retaining a pair of eyeglasses within a panel of a garment, comprising:

placing a first holding member separately from the pair of eyeglasses within a garment pocket in a first position such that the first holding member is abutting a surface of the inner garment panel facing the interior of the garment pocket, wherein the first holding member is removable from the inner garment panel;

placing a second holding member separately from the pair of eyeglasses outside the garment pocket in a first position such that the second holding member is abutting a surface of the inner garment panel facing outside the garment pocket toward the interior of the garment, wherein the second holding member is removable from the inner garment panel;

wherein one or both of the first and second holding elements comprises a magnet configured such that by the placing of the first and second holding members in their respective first positions on the inner garment panel, the first and second holding members are magnetically attracted to each other and against oppositely facing surfaces of the inner garment panel with a first magnetic attractive force, such that the first magnetic force prevents movement of the first and second holding members from their respective first positions on the inner garment panel; and

placing at least a magnetically attractive portion of pair of eyeglasses within the garment pocket, the magnetically attractive portion of the eyeglasses comprising or having secured thereto a retaining member comprising material magnetically attracted to one or both of the first and second holding members, such that a second magnetic attractive force between the magnetically attractive portion of the pair of eyeglasses and one or both of the first and second holding members in their respective first positions on the inner garment panel magnetically retains the eyeglasses within the garment pocket.

20 . The method of claim 19 , further comprising:

providing on at least one of the first holding member and the second holding member a friction surface comprising rubber-like material contacting and frictionally engaging the eyeglasses or the retaining member.
