Abstract

In some embodiments, a method comprises receiving a first signal indicative of a current emotional state of a user, receiving a second signal corresponding to a desired emotional state of the user, and based on the first and second signals, generating a playlist of media content including a first item and an nth item. The first signal can be received from a wearable sensor. Generating the playlist can comprise selecting items of media content, and arranging the media content in a sequential order such that the playlist transitions from the first item toward the nth item. The method can further comprise playing back, via a playback device, at least the first item of the media content, and while playing back the first item, receiving a third signal indicative of an updated emotional state of the user.

Claims (44)

1 . A method, performed by a media playback device comprising one or more processors and an integrated sensor, comprising:

collecting, from the integrated sensor, data relating to a current state of a user having a profile on a media content application;

sending, to a control device, an indication of the current state of the user, the control device comprising a user interface comprising a display, wherein the control device is configured to display to the user, via the display of the user interface of the control device, a list of a plurality of emotional states and receive from the user, via the user interface of the control device, a selection, from among the list of the plurality of emotional states, of a desired state of the user, wherein the desired state of the user is different from the current state of the user;

receiving, from the control device, a playlist of audio items generated, by the control device, based on the current state of the user, the desired state of the user, the user's profile on the media content application, demographic data associated with the user, and a permanent condition of the user;

sending, to a media streaming service server associated with the media content application, a request for one or more of the audio items based on the received playlist of audio items;

receiving, from the media streaming service server, the one or more of the audio items based on the received playlist of audio items; and

playing the one or more of the audio items based on the received playlist of audio items while monitoring the current state of the user.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media playback device is a wearable device and the integrated sensor comprises an EEG sensor.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media playback device comprises a set of headphones.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the control device is a mobile device.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the playlist includes at least a first item of media content having a first parameter corresponding to the current state of the user and a second item of media content having a second parameter corresponding to the desired state of the user.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the desired state of the user is a focused state.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the received playlist of audio items includes at least one item of generative music.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the permanent condition of the user is a permanent medical condition of the user and wherein generating the playlist of audio items comprises selecting audio items known or expected to at least partially mitigate symptoms associated with the permanent medical condition of the user.

9 . A media playback system, comprising:

a wearable device comprising an integrated sensor; and

a second device comprising:

a user interface comprising at least one display,

one or more processors, and

a tangible computer-readable memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the second device to perform operations comprising:

receiving, from the wearable device, an indication of a current state of a user having a profile on a media content application,

displaying to the user, via the display of the user interface of the second device, a list of a plurality of selectable emotional states,

receiving from the user, via the user interface of the second device, a selection of a desired state of the user from among the displayed list of the plurality of selectable emotional states, wherein the desired state of the user is different from the current state of the user,

generating, based on the current state, the desired state, and a permanent condition of the user, a playlist of audio items,

sending, to the wearable device, the playlist of audio items for playback by the wearable device, wherein the wearable device is configured to request the audio items from a media streaming service server associated with the media content application,

receiving, from the wearable device, an indication of an updated state of the user, dynamically updating the generated playlist, based on the received indication of the updated state of the user, to include one or more different items of media content than that of the generated playlist, and

sending, to the wearable device, the dynamically updated playlist for playback by the wearable device.

10 . The media playback system of claim 9 , wherein the generated playlist includes at least a first item of audio content having a first parameter corresponding to the current state and a second item of audio content having a second parameter corresponding to the desired state.

11 . The media playback system of claim 9 , wherein the integrated sensor is an EEG sensor.

12 . The media playback system of claim 9 , wherein the wearable device is a set of headphones.

13 . The media playback system of claim 9 , wherein the second device is a media playback device.

14 . The media playback system of claim 9 , wherein the desired state of the user is an increased level of concentration relative to the current state of the user.

15 . The media playback system of claim 9 , wherein the generated playlist of audio items includes at least one item of generative music.

16 . The media playback system of claim 9 , wherein generating the playlist of audio items comprises:

for each of a plurality of audio items, determining a probability that the audio item will affect the current state of the user.

17 . A computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by a computing system having at least one memory and at least one processor, cause the computing system to perform operations comprising:

collecting, from an integrated sensor of the computing system, data relating to a current state of a user having a profile on a media content application;

sending, to a second device, an indication of the current state of the user, the second device comprising a user interface comprising a display, wherein the second device is configured to display to the user, via the display of the user interface of the second device, a list of a plurality of emotional states and receive from the user, via the user interface of the second device, a selection, from among the list of the plurality of emotional states, of a desired state of the user, wherein the desired state of the user is different from the current state of the user;

receiving, from the second device, a playlist of audio items generated based on the current state of the user, the desired state of the user, and demographic data associated with the user; and

playing one or more of the audio items based on the received playlist of audio items while monitoring the current state of the user.
