Abstract

Apparatuses for tracking articles comprise a tracking device ( 12 ), a body ( 14 ), and an electrical network ( 22 ). The body ( 14 ) defines a device region ( 16 ) in which the tracking device ( 12 ) is positioned, and a battery region ( 18 ) configured to selectively receive and retain one or more batteries ( 20 ). The body ( 14 ) comprises a base ( 56 ) and one or more covers ( 58 ) operatively coupled to the base ( 56 ) to permit placement and removal of the one or more batteries ( 20 ). The electrical network ( 22 ) is operatively positioned within the body ( 14 ) and electrically couples the one or more batteries ( 20 ) with the tracking device ( 12 ).

one or more covers ( 58 ) operatively coupled to the base ( 56 ) to permit placement and removal of the one or more batteries ( 20 ) in and from the battery region ( 18 ); and

an electrical network ( 22 ) operatively positioned within the body ( 14 ) and electrically coupling the one or more batteries ( 20 ) with the tracking device ( 12 ) when the one or more batteries ( 20 ) are operatively received in the battery region ( 18 ), wherein the electrical network ( 22 ) comprises wires ( 66 ), and wherein the base insert ( 64 ) at least partially conceals the wires ( 66 ) between the base insert ( 64 ) and the main base ( 62 ).

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

one or more gaskets ( 60 ) operatively positioned to provide a seal or seals between the base ( 56 ) and the one or more covers ( 58 ) when the one or more covers ( 58 ) are operatively coupled to the base ( 56 ).

3 . The apparatus of claim 2 , further comprising screws ( 106 );

wherein the one or more covers ( 58 ) are removably coupled to the base ( 56 ) via the screws ( 106 ); and

wherein the one or more gaskets ( 60 ) are positioned inward of the screws ( 106 ).

4 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more covers ( 58 ) comprise a circular rib ( 78 ) extending toward the device region ( 16 ).

5 . The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the tracking device ( 12 ) has a central axis ( 42 ), and wherein the circular rib ( 78 ) is coaxial with the central axis ( 42 ).

6 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a coupler ( 80 ) configured to operatively attach the apparatus to the article.

7 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the coupler ( 80 ) comprises double-sided tape coupled to or configured to be coupled to the body ( 14 ).

8 . The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the coupler ( 80 ) comprises a magnet.

9 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the body ( 14 ) defines a through hole ( 84 ) configured to receive a structure for operatively coupling the apparatus to the article.

10 . The apparatus of claim 1 ,

wherein the tracking device ( 12 ) has a central axis ( 42 ); and

wherein the device region ( 16 ) is positioned lateral to the battery region ( 18 ) relative to the central axis ( 42 ).

11 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more batteries ( 20 ) comprise one or more cylindrical batteries.

12 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the base insert ( 64 ) at least partially defines the battery region ( 18 ).

13 . The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the base insert ( 64 ) comprises a first portion that partially defines the device region ( 16 ), and a second portion that extends from the first portion and that partially defines the battery region ( 18 ).

14 . The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the first portion has an upper surface, and wherein the second portion extends upward from the upper surface.

15 . The apparatus of claim 13 ,

wherein the electrical network ( 22 ) comprises battery terminals configured to operatively engage the one or more batteries ( 20 ); and

wherein the second portion of the base insert ( 64 ) extends over the battery terminals.

16 . An apparatus for tracking an article, comprising:

a tracking device ( 12 ) having a central axis ( 42 );

a body ( 14 ) defining a device region ( 16 ) in which the tracking device ( 12 ) is positioned, and a battery region ( 18 ) configured to selectively receive and retain one or more batteries ( 20 ), wherein the body ( 14 ) comprises:

a base ( 56 ); and

one or more covers ( 58 ) operatively coupled to the base ( 56 ) to permit placement and removal of the one or more batteries ( 20 ) in and from the battery region ( 18 ), wherein the one or more covers ( 58 ) comprise a circular rib ( 78 ) coaxial with the central axis ( 42 ) and extending toward the device region ( 16 ); and
