Abstract

A system and method for accurately tracking the delivery of items in an item distribution network using a purpose built confidence event recorder. An item sorter sorts items for delivery based upon route information and preferences for the delivery. Items are tracked while out for delivery through the use of confidence data recorded by a confidence event recorder carried by an item carrier. The confidence data recorder can that can record GPS and time data, as well as scan barcodes, such as a barcode on an item to be delivered. Confidence data can be used to accurately record when and where item carriers deliver items. The system determines if an actual delivery occurred by comparing the confidence data to previously gathered confidence data. An expected delivery window generation system can be used to generate expected delivery windows for the delivery of new items based on the confidence data recorded.

receive, from a first mobile delivery device, scan information from a scan associated with a past delivery of an item at one of the plurality of delivery points;

determine, based on the received scan information, a carrier identifier associated with the delivery of the item;

associate the determined carrier identifier with the confidence activity record for the one of the plurality of delivery points where the past delivery of the item occurred.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the scan information comprises a carrier identifier.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

receive, from a second mobile delivery device, login information comprising a carrier identifier;

determine whether the carrier identifier of the login information is the same as the carrier identifier associated with the confidence activity record.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein, if the carrier identifier of the login information is the same as the carrier identifier associated with the confidence activity record, the one or more processors are further configured to provide the expected delivery window for each of the plurality of delivery points to the mobile delivery device.

6 . The system of claim 4 , if the carrier identifier of the login information is not the same as the carrier identifier associated with the confidence activity record, the one or more processors are further configured to automatically update the expected delivery window for each of the plurality of delivery points to which the items are to be delivered.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

generate a route baseline table for at least one of the plurality of delivery routes based on the carrier identifier associated with the confidence records for the plurality of delivery points on the at least one of the plurality of delivery routes; and

store, in the baseline table database, the generated baseline table and association with the carrier identifier associated with the confidence records for the plurality of delivery points on the at least one of the plurality of delivery routes.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

receive, from a second mobile delivery device, a carrier identifier for one of the at least one of the plurality of delivery routes;

determine whether the received carrier identifier corresponds to the carrier identifier associated with the generated route baseline table; and

in response to determining that the received carrier identifier corresponds to the carrier identifier associated with the generated route baseline table, automatically generate an expected delivery window for each of the plurality of delivery points along the delivery route.

9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

identify a delivery point of the plurality of delivery points which lacks a confidence activity record;

identify a carrier assigned to the one of the plurality of delivery points on which the delivery point which lacks the confidence activity record is located;

automatically transmit to a mobile device assigned to the identified carrier, a prompt requesting the identified carrier scan a physical item at the identified delivery point which lacks a confidence activity record.

10 . A method of delivering items, the method comprising:

storing, in a memory, a plurality of routes, each of the plurality of routes comprising a plurality of delivery points;

storing, in a baseline table database, a confidence activity record for at least some of the plurality of delivery points;

receiving, from a first mobile delivery device, scan information from a scan associated with a past delivery of an item at one of the plurality of delivery points;

determining, based on the received scan information, a carrier identifier associated with the delivery of the item; and

associating the determined carrier identifier with the confidence activity record for the one of the plurality of delivery points where the past delivery occurred.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the scan information comprises a carrier identifier.

12 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

receiving a manifest of items to be delivered for one of the plurality of routes;

identifying confidence activity records for the plurality of delivery points to which the items are to be delivered; and

generating an expected delivery window for each of the plurality of delivery points to which the items are to be delivered based on the identified confidence activity records.

13 . The method of claim 12 , the method further comprising:

receiving, from a second mobile delivery device, login information comprising a carrier identifier;

determine whether the carrier identifier of the login information is the same as the carrier identifier associated with the confidence activity record.

14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising, if the carrier identifier of the login information is the same as the carrier identifier associated with the confidence activity record, providing the expected delivery window for each of the plurality of delivery points to the mobile delivery device.

15 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising, if the carrier identifier of the login information is not the same as the carrier identifier associated with the confidence activity record, automatically updating the expected delivery window for each of the plurality of delivery points to which the items are to be delivered.

16 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

generating a route baseline table for at least one of the plurality of delivery routes based on the carrier identifier associated with the confidence records for the plurality of delivery points on the at least one of the plurality of delivery routes; and
