Abstract

A method, of operating a display of a computing system, includes: identifying a focused region and a non-focused region of an original image; transforming color values of pixels in the non-focused region from a full color gamut of the display to a power reduced color gamut; generating a remapped image by remapping the non-focused region of the original image with the transformed color values; and outputting the remapped image on the display with the full color gamut in the focused region and the power reduced color gamut in the non-focused region.

Claims (55)

1 . A method of operating a display of a computing device, the method comprising:

obtaining classification information of elements in an original image, wherein the classification information is a power usage class based on a power policy of the computing device;

identifying a focused region and a non-focused region of the original image, wherein the non-focused region includes all elements in the original image with power usage class at or below a predetermined threshold of the power policy;

transforming color values of pixels in the non-focused region from a color gamut of the original image to a power reduced color gamut;

generating a remapped image by remapping the non-focused region of the original image with the transformed color values; and

outputting the remapped image on the display with the color gamut in the focused region and the power reduced color gamut in the non-focused region.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein

the elements in the original image correspond to application windows, and

the classification information is based on a level of activity for each corresponding application window.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein

the focused region includes an active application window with classification information above a predetermined activity threshold, and

the non-focused region includes an inactive application window with classification information at or below the predetermined activity threshold.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

identifying a secondary region of the original image; and

transforming color values of pixels in the secondary region from the color gamut of the original image to a secondary color gamut, wherein

the secondary region of the remapped image is output with the secondary color gamut, and

the secondary color gamut is different from the power reduced color gamut.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein

the power reduced color gamut has a lower bit depth than the color gamut of the display.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein

the power reduced color gamut is a grayscale version of the color gamut of the display.

7 . A non-transitory computer readable medium (CRM) storing computer readable program code for operating a display of a computing device, the computer readable program code causes the computing device to:

obtain classification information of elements in an original image, wherein the classification information is a power usage class based on a power policy of the computing device;

identify a focused region and a non-focused region of the original image, wherein the non-focused region includes all elements in the original image with power usage class at or below a predetermined threshold of the power policy;

transform color values of pixels in the non-focused region from a color gamut of the original image to a power reduced color gamut;

generate a remapped image by remapping the non-focused region of the original image with the transformed color values; and

output the remapped image on the display with the color gamut in the focused region and the power reduced color gamut in the non-focused region.

8 . The non-transitory CRM of claim 7 , wherein

the elements in the original image correspond to application windows, and

the classification information is based on a level of activity for each corresponding application window.

9 . The non-transitory CRM of claim 8 , wherein

the focused region includes an active application window with classification information above a predetermined activity threshold, and

the non-focused region includes an inactive application window with classification information at or below the predetermined activity threshold.

10 . The non-transitory CRM of claim 7 , wherein

the computer readable program code further causes the computing device to:

identify a secondary region of the original image; and

transform color values of pixels in the secondary region from the color gamut of the original image to a secondary color gamut,

the secondary region of the remapped image is output with the secondary color gamut, and

the secondary color gamut is different from the power reduced color gamut.

11 . The non-transitory CRM of claim 7 , wherein

the power reduced color gamut has a lower bit depth than the color gamut of the display.

12 . The non-transitory CRM of claim 11 , wherein

the power reduced color gamut is a grayscale version of the color gamut of the display.

13 . A computing device comprising:

a display; and

a processor coupled to the display,

wherein the processor is configured to:

obtain classification information of elements in an original image, wherein the classification information is a power usage class based on a power policy of the computing device;

identify a focused region and a non-focused region of the original image, wherein the non-focused region includes all elements in the original image with a power usage class at or below a predetermined threshold of the power policy;

transform color values of pixels in the non-focused region from a color gamut of the original image to a power reduced color gamut;

generate a remapped image by remapping the non-focused region of the original image with the transformed color values; and

output the remapped image on the display with the color gamut in the focused region and the power reduced color gamut in the non-focused region.

14 . The computing device of claim 13 , wherein

the elements in the original image correspond to application windows, and

the classification information is based on a level of activity for each corresponding application window.
