Abstract

Aspects provided herein provide methods, systems, and a non-transitory computer storage medium storing computer instructions for dynamic blanking of physical resource blocks (PRBs) in a network. The method begins with measuring a radio frequency (RF) condition metric for a network element. The network element may be a base station or a sector of a base station. The RF condition metric is then compared with a predetermined blanking threshold. Based on the comparison, a first set of PRBs facing a second set of PRBs on a second network element may be dynamically blanked.

Claims (17)

1 . A method of dynamic blanking of physical resource blocks (PRBs) in a network, the method comprising:

measuring a radio frequency (RF) condition metric for a first network element, wherein a first set of PRBs is assigned to the first network element;

comparing the RF condition metric with a predetermined blanking threshold; and

based on the comparison, dynamically blanking a first set of PRBs facing a second set of PRBs on a second network element, wherein the second set of PRBs is assigned to the second network element, wherein the first network element and the second network element are adjacent sectors of a same base station, and wherein the first set of PRBs and the second set of PRBs are facing in a way that they cause interference with one another.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising discontinuing blanking of the first set of PRBs when the RF condition metric measures above the predetermined blanking threshold in a subsequent RF condition metric.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the RF condition metric is a signal to interference and noise (SINR) measurement.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first network element is a sector of a base station and the RF condition metric is measured with respect to an adjacent cell site.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising comparing a number of PRBs assigned to a user equipment (UE) with a predetermined maximum number of assigned PRBs.

6 . The method of claim 5 , further comprising increasing the number of PRBs assigned to the UE to the predetermined maximum number of assigned PRBs based on the RF condition metric.

7 . A non-transitory computer storage media storing computer-useable instructions that, when used by one or more processors, cause the processors to:

measure a radio frequency (RF) condition metric for a first network element, wherein a first set of physical resource blocks (PRBs) is assigned to the first network element;

compare the RF condition metric with a predetermined blanking threshold; and

based on the comparison, dynamically blank the first set of PRBs facing a second set of PRBs on a second network element, wherein the second set of PRBs is assigned to the second network element, wherein the first network element and the second network element are adjacent sectors of a same base station, and wherein the first set of PRBs faces the second set of PRBs such that signaling from the first set of PRBs causes interference at the second set of PRBs on the second network element different from the first network element.

8 . The non-transitory computer storage media of claim 7 , further comprising discontinue dynamic blanking of the first set of PRBs when the RF condition metric measures above the predetermined blanking threshold.

9 . The non-transitory computer storage media of claim 7 , wherein the RF condition metric is a signal to interference and noise (SINR) measurement.

10 . The non-transitory computer storage media of claim 7 , wherein the first network element is a sector of a cell site and the RF condition metric is measured with respect to an adjacent sector of the cell site.

11 . The non-transitory computer storage media of claim 7 , further comprising increase a number of PRBs assigned to a device connected to the network element to a predetermined maximum number of assigned PRBs based on the RF condition metric.
