Abstract

The present disclosure is generally directed to media systems configured to receive and play media assets. In particular, methods and systems are provided for improved media asset session continuity across such media systems. Systems and methods are provided herein for continuing media asset sessions across media systems or media devices in a way designed to minimize manual intervention, for example, by determining a likelihood (e.g., a probability) of a user requesting media session continuation of an ongoing media asset or a segment thereof across two or more devices.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises:

transferring a portion of the media asset to a third device located on the internet; and

receiving, from the third device, the media asset at the second device.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least a subset of the steps are facilitated by a media guidance application running on the first device.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving, at the first device, input selecting the media asset setting; and

updating the user profile in accordance with the input selecting the media asset setting.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the identifying further comprises identifying the second device from a plurality of other devices and identifying the second device based, at least in part, on the media asset setting.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the method further comprises:

initiating, based at least in part on the transferring, a timer; and

monitoring, at the first device, whether an input has been received; and

the determining that the condition to stop generating the received media asset for output at the first device has been satisfied further comprises determining, based at least in part on the monitoring, that a threshold amount of time without an input at the first device has passed since the initiation of the timer.

11 . A system comprising:

input/output circuitry configured to:

receive, at a first device, a media asset having an established connection with a source of the media asset, wherein the first device is logged into a user profile associated with the source of the media asset;

cause to generate, for output at the first device, the received media asset; and

receive, via a voice recognition interface, a command to transfer the output of the media asset to a second device; and

processing circuitry configured to:

identify, based at least in part on the command, the second device for outputting the media asset;

transfer the output of the media asset to the second device;

establish a connection between the source of the media asset and the second device, wherein the second device is logged into the user profile associated with the source of the media asset;

access a first media asset setting associated with the user profile;

cause to generate, for output at the second device and in accordance with the media asset setting, the media asset;

access a second media asset setting associated with the user profile;

determine, based at least in part on the transferring and the second media asset setting, that a condition to stop generating the received media asset for output at the first device has been satisfied; and

stop generating the received media asset for output at the first device.
