Transmission of location information to devices along with wireless emergency alert messages using cell broadcast
Various communication systems may benefit from the appropriate provision of location information. For example, certain wireless communication systems may benefit from the transmission of location information to devices along with wireless emergency alert messages using cell broadcast. A method can include receiving, at a user equipment, coordinates for an alert area for a wireless emergency alert. The method can also include determining, at the user equipment, whether the user equipment is within the alert area based on the coordinates. The method can further include processing the wireless emergency alert at the user equipment in accordance with the determination.

determining, at the user equipment, whether the user equipment is within the alert area based on the coordinates; and
processing, at the user equipment, the wireless emergency alert in accordance with the determination as to whether the user equipment is within the alert area,
wherein the coordinates are received in a system information block,
wherein the system information block is encoded with an abstract syntax notation one (ASN.1) code,
wherein a separate field of a segment within the system information block comprises the coordinates,
wherein the separate field of the segment that comprises the coordinates is located after an extensibility marker “ . . . ” within the ASN.1 code, and
