Identifying devices within transmissions within a sensing network
Systems and methods for Wi-Fi sensing are provided. A method for Wi-Fi sensing carried out by a sensing algorithm manager including at least one processor configured to execute instructions. A sensing measurement based on a sensing transmission transmitted by a sensing transmitter and received by a sensing receiver is obtained. Then, a device context of a sensing pair associated with the sensing transmission is determined. The sensing pair includes the sensing transmitter and the sensing receiver. The sensing measurement is associated with the device context. A sensing algorithm is executed according to the sensing measurement and the device context to generate a sensing result.
1 . A method for Wi-Fi sensing carried out by a sensing algorithm manager including at least one processor configured to execute instructions, the method comprising:
obtaining, by the at least one processor, a sensing measurement based on a sensing transmission transmitted by a sensing transmitter and received by a sensing receiver;
determining, by the sensing algorithm manager, a device context of a sensing pair associated with the sensing transmission, the sensing pair including the sensing transmitter and the sensing receiver, wherein the device context of the sensing pair associated with the sensing transmission includes one or more of a universal MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter, a universal MAC address associated with the sensing receiver, a higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing transmitter, a higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing receiver, and a sensing imprint;
associating the sensing measurement with the device context; and
executing, by the at least one processor, a sensing algorithm according to the sensing measurement and the device context to generate a sensing result.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the sensing algorithm manager includes a receiving antenna configured to receive the sensing measurement from the sensing receiver.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the device context includes:
identifying a universal MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter, and
determining the device context from a device context record corresponding to the universal MAC address.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the device context includes identifying the higher layer identification fingerprint which includes a hostname and an IP address associated with the sensing transmitter.
5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising associating the higher layer identification fingerprint with a MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating a device context record corresponding to the device context with at least one of:
the universal MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter,
the universal MAC address associated with the sensing receiver,
the higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing transmitter,
the higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing receiver, and
the sensing imprint.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the device context includes information identifying the sensing transmitter and the sensing receiver of the sensing pair.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising updating a device context record corresponding to the device context with at least one of:
the universal MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter,
the universal MAC address associated with the sensing receiver,
the higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing transmitter,
the higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing receiver, and
the sensing imprint.
9 . A system for Wi-Fi sensing comprising:
a sensing algorithm manager including at least one processor configured to execute instructions for:
obtaining a sensing measurement based on a sensing transmission transmitted by a sensing transmitter and received by a sensing receiver;
determining, by the sensing algorithm manager, a device context of a sensing pair associated with the sensing transmission, the sensing pair including the sensing transmitter and the sensing receiver, wherein the device context of the sensing pair associated with the sensing transmission includes one or more of a universal MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter, a universal MAC address associated with the sensing receiver, a higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing transmitter, a higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing receiver, and a sensing imprint;
associating the sensing measurement with the device context; and executing a sensing algorithm according to the sensing measurement and the device context to generate a sensing result.
10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the sensing algorithm manager includes a receiving antenna configured to receive the sensing measurement from the sensing receiver.
11 . The system of claim 9 , wherein determining the device context includes:
identifying universal MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter, and
determining the device context from a device context record corresponding to the universal MAC address.
12 . The system of claim 9 , wherein determining the device context includes identifying the higher layer identification fingerprint which includes a hostname and an IP address associated with the sensing transmitter.
13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured with instructions for associating the higher layer identification fingerprint with a MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter.
14 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured with instructions for generating a device context record corresponding to the device context with at least one of:
the universal MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter,
the universal MAC address associated with the sensing receiver,
the higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing transmitter,
the higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing transmitter, and
the sensing imprint.
15 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the device context includes information identifying the sensing transmitter and the sensing receiver of the sensing pair.
16 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured with instructions for updating a device context record corresponding to the device context with at least one of:
the universal MAC address associated with the sensing transmitter,
the universal MAC address associated with the sensing receiver,
the higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing transmitter,
the higher layer identification fingerprint associated with the sensing receiver, and
the sensing imprint.
