Abstract

A sole structure for an article of footwear, the sole structure including a cushioning member that includes a recessed portion and a projection. The sole structure also includes an outsole coupled to the cushioning member and including a protrusion. The sole structure further includes a bladder disposed between the cushioning member and the outsole. The bladder includes a first segment and a second segment and defines a notch between the first segment and the second segment. The notch extends from a first edge of the bladder in a direction toward a second edge of the bladder. The projection of the cushioning member and the protrusion of the outsole are at least partially disposed within the notch of the bladder.

Claims (24)

1 . A sole structure for an article of footwear, the sole structure comprising:

a cushioning member including a recessed portion and a projection;

a bladder disposed within the recessed portion and including a bladder notch extending from a first edge of the bladder on a lateral side of the sole structure in a direction toward a second edge of the bladder on a medial side of the sole structure, the projection of the cushioning member at least partially disposed within the bladder notch; and

an outsole attached to the bladder on an opposite side from the cushioning member and including an outsole notch aligned with the bladder notch and an outsole protrusion surrounding the outsole notch and at least partially received within the bladder notch.

2 . The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the bladder notch includes a terminal end and an opening at the first edge, the bladder notch tapering in a direction from the first edge toward the terminal end.

3 . The sole structure of claim 2 , wherein the bladder notch is defined between a first segment of the bladder and a second segment of the bladder each including a radius that further defines the opening of the bladder notch, the opening defining a widest point of the notch.

4 . The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the bladder includes a first arcuate segment and a second arcuate segment each connected to a third edge of the bladder, the third edge connected to the first edge of the bladder by the first arcuate segment and connected to the second edge of the bladder by the second arcuate segment.

5 . The sole structure of claim 4 , wherein the third edge of the bladder includes a planar portion connecting the first arcuate segment and the second arcuate segment.

6 . The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the bladder defines an asymmetric shape about an axis extending through a center of the bladder and the recessed portion of the cushioning member defines an asymmetric shape about an axis extending through a center of the recessed portion.

7 . The sole structure of claim 3 , wherein the first segment and the second segment each includes a substantially straight portion extending along a respective axis, the axis of the first segment convergent with the axis of the second segment.

8 . The sole structure of claim 7 , wherein the first segment has a length greater than a length of the second segment.

9 . An article of footwear including the sole structure of claim 1 .

10 . A sole structure for an article of footwear, the sole structure comprising:

a cushioning member including a recessed portion and a projection;

a bladder disposed within the recessed portion and including a first segment and a second segment and defining a bladder notch between the first segment and the second segment, the projection of the cushioning member at least partially disposed within the bladder notch, the bladder being asymmetric about an axis extending through the center of the bladder; and

an outsole attached to the bladder on an opposite side from the cushioning member and including an outsole protrusion at least partially received within the bladder notch and an outsole notch formed within the outsole protrusion and aligned with the bladder notch.

11 . The sole structure of claim 10 , wherein the bladder notch extends from a first edge of the bladder toward a second edge of the bladder and includes a terminal end and an opening at the first edge, the bladder notch tapering in a direction from the first edge toward the terminal end.

12 . The sole structure of claim 11 , wherein the first segment and the second segment each includes a radius that further defines the opening of the notch, the opening defining a widest point of the notch.

13 . The sole structure of claim 11 , wherein the bladder includes a first arcuate segment and a second arcuate segment each connected to a third edge of the bladder, the third edge connected to the first edge of the bladder by the first arcuate segment and connected to the second edge of the bladder by the second arcuate segment.

14 . The sole structure of claim 13 , wherein the third edge of the bladder includes a planar portion connecting the first arcuate segment and the second arcuate segment.

15 . The sole structure of claim 10 , wherein the recessed portion of the cushioning member defines an asymmetric shape about an axis extending through a center of the recessed portion.

16 . The sole structure of claim 10 , wherein the first segment and the second segment each includes a substantially straight portion extending along a respective axis, the axis of the first segment convergent with the axis of the second segment.

17 . The sole structure of claim 16 , wherein the first segment has a length greater than a length of the second segment.

18 . An article of footwear including the sole structure of claim 10 .
