Abstract

A cable for use with a pressure monitoring catheter, the catheter including an inflatable balloon forming a fluid chamber for pressure measurement. The cable has a first end operably connectable to the catheter, a second end operably connectable to a monitor providing pressure displays, and a printed circuit. The cable includes one or both of the filter system to enable collection and analysis of data and an adjustment feature to adjust pressure values in response to patient movement.

Claims (14)

. A cable for use with a pressure monitoring catheter, the cable having a first end configured to operably connect to the pressure monitoring catheter, a second end configured to operably connect to a monitor which is configured to display pressure values, and a printed circuit, the cable configured to obtain a plurality of pressure readings and configured to store in memory the pressure readings, the cable including a movement adjustment feature configured to adjust pressure values by calculating and comparing pressure differences in response to a patient moving from a supine position to an elevated position to account for changes in the pressure due to the patient moving, the movement adjustment feature configured to compare pressure readings in the elevated position to pressure readings in the supine position and calculate a difference for adjustment of the pressure readings in the elevated position.

. The cable of claim 1 , wherein the cable includes a temperature adjustment feature configured to adjust pressure values in response to temperature changes.

. The cable of claim 1 , wherein the cable includes a barometric pressure adjustment feature configured to adjust pressure values in response to barometric pressure changes.

. The cable of claim 1 , wherein the cable includes a filtering system configured to collect and analyze a data input, the filtering system configured to filter out upper values of pressure values and take lower values of the pressure values over specific periods of time.

. The cable of claim 4 , wherein the filtering system is configured to take a predetermined number of samples representative of a lowest value of the pressure values and calculate an average value from the predetermined number of samples for display of the average value based solely on the lower values.

. The cable of claim 5 , wherein the cable is configured to calculate the average value multiple times and wherein the cable is configured to communicate with a monitor which is configured to display the average value in a line readout.

. The cable of claim 1 , wherein the cable further comprises a housing with a channel, the channel configured to receive an elongated rod of the catheter, the channel including an O-ring seal through which the elongated rod passes, wherein the channel includes a first spacer and a second spacer, the first spacer on a first side of the O-ring and the second spacer on a second side of the O-ring, and wherein the O-ring is configured so the position of the O-ring effects an amount of air displaced by the elongated rod when inserted into the channel to charge the second balloon.

. The cable of claim 1 , wherein a data output of the cable is filtered data.

. The cable of claim 1 , further comprising an indicator on the cable, the indicator configured to indicate if a data output of the cable is for the supine position or the elevated position.

. The cable of claim 1 , further including a pressure sensor and locking mechanism for locking to a connector of the pressure monitoring catheter, wherein attachment of the cable displaces air within the catheter to inflate a pressure measuring balloon of the catheter.

. The cable of claim 8 , wherein the cable is configured to selectively activate a display of the monitor in communication with the cable, the selective activation alternating from unfiltered pressure data to the filtered data.

. The cable of claim 8 , wherein the cable includes a capture button, the capture button configured to be activated, the activation causing the cable to capture and store into the memory the filtered data in the supine position and the elevated position of the patient.

. The cable of claim 1 , wherein the cable is configured to store into memory a supine pressure measurement when the patient is in the supine position and store into memory an elevated pressure measurement when the patient is in an elevated position.

. The cable of claim 13 , wherein the cable is configured to subtract the difference from the elevated pressure measurement.
