Abstract

Disclosed herein are devices and methods of percutaneously treating an ulcerated wound using ultrasonic energy. Some methods include delivering ultrasonic energy to a target tissue located at a position subcutaneous to the ulcerated wound. In some methods, the ultrasonic energy is delivered using an ultrasonic energy delivery device.

Claims (31)

1 . A system configured for percutaneously treating a target wound tissue, the system comprising:

a transducer;

a horn; and

a fully hardened needle fixed to the horn, the needle comprising an exposed portion having a length of about 0.75 inches to about 3.0 inches,

wherein a distal portion of the needle is configured to be inserted into a first position subcutaneous to the target wound tissue using a first access portal and then inserted into a second position subcutaneous to the target wound tissue using a second access portal, and

wherein the horn and transducer are configured to generate ultrasonic energy at the first subcutaneous position and

at the second subcutaneous position.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the system is further configured to debride the target wound tissue with the ultrasonic energy.

3 . The system of claim 2 , further comprising an aspiration conduit configured to remove from at least one of the first subcutaneous position or the second subcutaneous position at least some detritus that may have been produced by the debriding.

4 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising an irrigation conduit configured to deliver fluid to at least one of the first subcutaneous position or the second subcutaneous position.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the ultrasonic energy is delivered through the needle.

6 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a rigid sheath around at least a section of the needle.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the sheath includes an inner lumen forming a part of an irrigation conduit.

8 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the sheath includes an insertion portion configured to be inserted into the target wound tissue.

9 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising a cap configured to removably cover the needle.

10 . The system of claim 9 , further comprising a housing, wherein the cap is removably connectable to the housing.

11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the needle comprises a stainless steel material, and wherein the needle is brazed to the horn.

12 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the needle is a hypodermic needle.

13 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the needle has a gauge of about 12 to about 25.

14 . A system configured for percutaneously treating a target wound tissue, the system comprising:

a transducer;

a horn; and

a fully hardened needle having a bevel at a distal tip, the needle comprising an exposed portion having a length of about 0.75 inches to about 3.0 inches,

wherein a distal portion of the needle is configured to be inserted into a first position subcutaneous to the target wound tissue and then inserted into a second position subcutaneous to the target wound tissue, and

wherein the horn and the transducer are configured to generate ultrasonic energy at the first subcutaneous position and

at the second subcutaneous position.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the needle bevel is about 45 degrees.

16 . The system of claim 14 , further comprising a rigid sheath around at least a section of the needle.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the sheath includes an inner lumen forming a part of a fluid conduit.

18 . The system of claim 14 , further comprising a cap configured to removably cover the needle.

19 . The system of claim 18 , further comprising a housing, wherein the cap is removably connectable to the housing.
