Adjusted stiffness orthopaedic implants and method of manufacture
An orthopaedic implant includes: a porous ingrowth material body including a porous ingrowth material including a polymer and configured to be implanted within the spine of a human or a non-human animal, the material body comprising a top surface and a bottom surface and a through-hole extending through the material body from the top surface to the bottom surface, the material body having at least one pin opening that extends from the top surface toward the bottom surface; and at least one pin placed in the at least one pin opening.
1 . An orthopaedic implant, comprising:
a porous ingrowth material body comprising a porous ingrowth material comprising a polymer and configured to be implanted within the spine of a human or a non-human animal, the material body comprising a top surface and a bottom surface and a through-hole extending through the material body from the top surface to the bottom surface, the material body comprising at least one pin opening that extends from the top surface toward the bottom surface, wherein the top surface of the material body defines an entire top surface of the orthopaedic implant and the bottom surface of the material body defines an entire bottom surface of the orthopaedic implant; and
at least one pin placed in and disposed entirely within the at least one pin opening.
2 . The orthopaedic implant of claim 1 , wherein the polymer comprises a polyaryl ether ketone.
3 . The orthopaedic implant of claim 2 , wherein the material body comprises polyether ether ketone.
4 . The orthopaedic implant of claim 2 , wherein the at least one pin comprises a metal.
5 . The orthopaedic implant of claim 2 , wherein the at least one pin opening is formed in a corner of the material body.
