Abstract

A device for removing fat from a body can include a pair of nested hollow members that each has at least one opening and an adjustment means for adjusting the orientation of the nested hollow members from a first configuration to a second configuration to change an amount of overlap between openings in the nested hollow members. The nested members can be deformable to change the shape of the openings.

Claims (21)

1 . A device for attachment to a suction device for removing fat from a body, comprising:

a pair of nested hollow members that includes an inner hollow member and an outer hollow member, each of the nested hollow members having at least one opening;

an adjustment member configured to change a relative orientation of the nested hollow members from a first overlapping configuration with a first amount of overlap between openings in the nested hollow members to a second overlapping configuration with a second amount of overlap between openings in the nested hollow members; and

wherein the first amount of overlap defines a first passageway of a first size and the second amount of overlap defines a second passageway of a second size that is different from the first size, and the adjustment member comprises a securing member that is configured to restrict relative movement of the nested hollow members when in the first or second configurations,

wherein the outer hollow member includes at least two sets of openings radially spaced apart along the circumference of the outer hollow member, and the adjustment member is configured to move the inner hollow member relative to the outer hollow member between (i) a first configuration in which passageways are formed at both of the at least two sets of openings spread out around a circumference of the device, and (ii) a second configuration in which passageways are formed at only one of the at least two sets of openings on a single circumferential sector of the device.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the adjustment member is movable to a plurality of discrete positions that correspond to a plurality of passageways of different sizes, the plurality of passageways including the first and second passageways.

3 . The device of claim 2 , wherein the adjustment member comprises a ball and detent system that permits movement of the adjustment member between the plurality of discrete positions.

4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the nested hollow members is deformable to change a shape of its respective at least one opening.

5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one opening of the outer hollow member includes at least two openings that have a different size.

6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one opening of the outer hollow member includes at least two openings that have a different shape.

7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one opening of the outer hollow member includes at least two openings that have a different size and the at least one opening of the inner hollow member includes at least two openings that have a different size.

8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one opening of the outer hollow member includes at least two openings that have, respectively, a first shape and a second shape, the second shape being different from the first shape, and wherein the at least one opening of the inner hollow member includes at least two openings that, respectively, have the first shape and the second shape.

9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the adjustment member includes a gear system.

10 . The device of claim 9 , wherein the gear system can be disengaged to rotate the inner and outer hollow members relative to one another.

11 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the adjustment member includes a handle and an indication system is provided on the handle.

12 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the adjustment member is configured to move the inner hollow member longitudinally and/or rotate the inner hollow member relative to the outer hollow member.

13 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the adjustment member is configured to deform the inner hollow member from a first shape to a second shape, the second shape being different from the first shape, and the outer hollow member has a fixed shape.

14 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the adjustment member is configured to deform the outer hollow member from a first shape to a second shape, the second shape being different from the first shape, and the inner hollow member has a fixed shape.

15 . The device of claim 1 , further comprising an indication system for indicating a relative position of the inner and outer hollow members.

16 . The device of claim 15 , wherein the indication system indicates an amount of overlap between the at least one opening of the inner hollow member and the at least one opening of the outer hollow member when in the first overlapping configuration and the second overlapping configuration.

17 . The device of claim 16 , wherein at least one of the first passageways or second passageways define a relative orientation where at least one of the openings in the outer hollow member are restricted in size by a respective opening of the inner hollow member.
