Container and method
A blow molded container is provided. The container includes a neck having a neck finish and a transverse rim that defines an opening. A closure is provided that is engageable with the neck such that the rim is movable relative to the neck to define one or more vents configured for passage of a gas. In some embodiments, methods of use and manufacturing containers are disclosed.
1 . A container comprising:
a body extending between opposite first and second ends, the body defining a volume and including a side wall extending from the first end to the second end;
a neck monolithically formed with the first end and the second end, the neck defining an opening and comprising a first side and an opposite second side, the first side comprising a single projection, the projection being disposed between a first relief of the first side and a second relief of the first side; and
a closure engageable with the neck to cover the opening such that rotation of the closure relative to the neck deforms the neck and the reliefs each define a vent.
2 . A container as recited in claim 1 , wherein the neck includes an inner surface that defines the opening and an opposite outer surface, the reliefs each extending into the outer surface.
3 . A container as recited in claim 1 , wherein the neck includes a rim, the projection being disposed on a raised surface of the rim.
4 . A container as recited in claim 1 , wherein the reliefs are elongated rectangular reliefs.
5 . A container as recited in claim 1 , wherein the projection is a button.
6 . A container as recited in claim 1 , wherein the closure is movable relative to the neck between a first configuration in which the reliefs do not define the vents, and a second configuration in which the reliefs define the vents.
7 . A container as recited in claim 6 , wherein:
the container extends along a longitudinal axis between the first and second ends of the body; and
in the first configuration, the neck is oriented substantially perpendicular relative to the longitudinal axis.
8 . A container as recited in claim 6 , wherein:
the container extends along a longitudinal axis between the first and second ends of the body; and
in the first configuration, the projection has a first height along the longitudinal axis and in the second configuration, the projection has a second height along the longitudinal axis, the second height being less than the first height.
9 . A container as recited in claim 1 , wherein a selected amount of torque is applied to the closure to rotate the closure relative to the neck.
10 . A container as recited in claim 9 , wherein the selected amount of torque is in a range of 15 to 80 lb/in.
11 . A container as recited in claim 1 , wherein:
the container extends along a longitudinal axis between the first and second ends of the body;
the closure is movable relative to the neck between a first configuration in which the reliefs do not define the vents, and a second configuration in which the reliefs define the vents, and
in the second configuration, the neck is disposed at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis.
12 . A container as recited in claim 1 , wherein the neck includes a thread extending from an outer surface of the neck, the projection and the reliefs being spaced apart from the thread.
13 . A container as recited in claim 1 , wherein:
the second side comprises a single projection, the projection of the second side being disposed between a first relief of the second side and a second relief of the second side; and
the closure is engageable with the neck to cover the opening such that rotation of the closure relative to the neck deforms the neck and the reliefs of the second side and the reliefs of the second side each define a vent.
14 . A container comprising:
a body extending between opposite first and second ends, the body defining a volume and including a side wall extending from the first end to the second end;
a neck monolithically formed with the first end and the second end, the neck defining an opening and comprising a first side and an opposite second side, the first side comprising a single projection, the projection being disposed between a first relief of the first side and a second relief of the first side, the second side comprising a single projection, the projection of the second side being disposed between a first relief of the second side and a second relief of the second side; and
a closure engageable with the neck to cover the opening such that rotation of the closure relative to the neck deforms the neck and the reliefs each define a vent,
wherein the neck includes an inner surface that defines the opening and an opposite outer surface, the reliefs each extending into the outer surface, and
wherein the neck includes a rim, the projections each being disposed on a raised surface of the rim.
15 . A container as recited in claim 14 , wherein the closure is movable relative to the neck between a first configuration in which the reliefs do not define the vents, and a second configuration in which the reliefs define the vents.
16 . A container as recited in claim 15 , wherein:
the container extends along a longitudinal axis between the first and second ends of the body; and
in the first configuration, the neck is oriented substantially perpendicular relative the longitudinal axis.
17 . A container as recited in claim 15 , wherein in the second configuration, the neck is disposed at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the container.
18 . A container as recited in claim 13 , wherein the neck includes a thread extending from an outer surface of the neck, the projections and the reliefs being spaced apart from the thread.
19 . A container as recited in claim 13 , wherein:
a selected amount of torque is applied to the closure to rotate the closure relative to the neck; and
the selected amount of torque is in a range of 15 to 80 lb/in.
20 . A container comprising:
a body extending between opposite first and second ends, the body defining a volume and including a side wall extending from the first end to the second end;
