Abstract

Examples are provided for identifying charging options for charging an electric vehicle. In one method, the charging options may be identified by receiving a charging station query including one or more parameters, accessing a charging station database, the charging station database storing connector codes identifying a connector type and a connector power level for charging connectors provided at a plurality of charging stations, and comparing parameters of the charging station query to the connector codes of the charging station database to identify a first subset of the plurality of charging stations that fit the parameters of the charging station query. The method may also include transmitting mapping data for the first subset of the plurality of charging stations to a client device.

1 . A method of identifying charging options for an electric vehicle, the method comprising:

receiving charging station data including connector types of connectors present at a plurality of charging stations and power information associated with the connectors;

determining, by a processor, a subset of the plurality of charging stations at least by selecting charging stations of the plurality of charging stations that include connectors that are compatible with the electric vehicle; and

transmitting, to a client device, mapping data to cause the client device to display on a graphical user interface a map showing indicators for the charging stations of the subset at respective positions on the map corresponding to locations of the charging stations of the subset, each of the indicators showing indications of respective power information and at least one other parameter of an associated charging station of the subset based on the charging station data.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising converting at least some of the charging station data to standardized connector codes and determining associated standardized connector codes for connectors that are adapted for the electric vehicle, wherein the charging stations of the plurality of charging stations that include connectors that are compatible with the electric vehicle are selected to be in the subset based at least in part on inclusion of one or more connectors having the associated standardized connector codes.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subset includes a first charging station having a first connector type or connector power level available and a second charging station having a second connector type or connector power level, different from the first connector type or connector power level, available, and wherein the indicators include a first indicator for the first charging station and a second indicator for the second charging station, the first indicator having a different graphical appearance than the second indicator.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the first indicator and the second indicator are assigned using at least one of a standardized shape system, a standardized coloring system, and a standardized patterning system to represent the respective connector type available at the first and second charging station.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the subset includes a first charging station having a first power level available and a second charging station having a second power level, different from the first power level, available, and wherein the indicators include a first indicator for the first charging station and a second indicator for the second charging station, the first indicator having a different indication of power level than the second indicator.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the first indicator and the second indicator are assigned using a standardized numbering system for representing different power levels.

7 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the first charging station has a first connector type available and the second charging station has a second connector type, different from the first connector type, available, and wherein the first indicator has a first graphical appearance that corresponds to the first connector type and the second indicator has a second graphical appearance that is different from the first graphical appearance and that corresponds to the second connector type.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the first indicator and the second indicator include a different color, shape, or pattern relative to one another.

9 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the first charging station and the second charging station have a first connector type available, and wherein the first indicator and the second indicator have a same pattern, shape, or color that corresponds to the first connector type.

10 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the first charging station has multiple connectors that are adapted for the electric vehicle, and wherein the first indicator has a numerical or character-based indication of a highest power level of the multiple connectors that are adapted for the electric vehicle.

11 . A system for identifying charging options for an electric vehicle, the system comprising:

means for connecting the system to one or more charging station data sources or to a database of charging stations mapping charging connectors of the charging stations to associated standardized connector codes; and

means for determining associated standardized connector codes for connectors that are adapted for the electric vehicle;

means for identifying a subset of charging stations in the database at least by selecting the standardized connector codes present at the charging stations of the database that are compatible with the connectors adapted for the electric vehicle;

means for generating mapping data configured to cause display of a map showing respective indicators of the selected standardized connector codes at respective positions on the map corresponding to locations of the charging stations of the subset, each of the respective indicators having a respective graphical appearance representing a power level and at least one other parameter of a respective charging station of the subset or connectors at a respective charging station of the subset; and

means for transmitting the mapping data to a client device to cause the client device to display the map.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the respective indicators include, for each selected standardized connector code, a respective number representing, based on a standardized numbering system, the respective power level of the selected standardized connector code.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein, for at least one of the selected standardized connector codes, the respective number representing the respective power level is mapped to a range of power levels in the standardized numbering system.

14 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the respective indicators for the selected standardized connector codes corresponding to different connector types have a different color, pattern, shape, or size from one another.

15 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a computing system, cause the computing system to:

receive charging station data including connector types of connectors present at a plurality of charging stations and power information associated with the connectors;

generate, by a processor, mapping data for the plurality of charging stations based at least in part on the charging station data; and

transmit, to a client device, the mapping data to cause the client device to display on a graphical user interface a map showing indicators for the plurality of charging stations at respective positions on the map corresponding to locations of the plurality of charging stations, the indicators showing indications of respective power information and at least one other parameter of an associated charging station of the plurality of charging stations based on the charging station data.
