Interactive systems and methods with tracking devices
A wearable device includes a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag having a memory that stores identification information. The wearable device also has a power harvesting circuit configured to harness power from electromagnetic radiation. Further, the wearable device has a sensor coupled to the power harvesting circuit and configured to utilize the power to monitor a condition of the wearable device. Even further, the wearable device has a microcontroller coupled to the sensor and configured to write data indicative of the condition to the memory of the RFID tag, wherein the RFID tag is configured to transmit the identification information and the data in response to receipt of the electromagnetic radiation from an RFID reader.
1 . A wearable device, comprising:
one or more light emitters; and
wherein the wearable device is configured to control at least one light emitter of the one or more light emitters to emit light of a first characteristic in response to receipt of respective electromagnetic radiation from a first interactive element and to emit light of a second characteristic in response to receipt of respective electromagnetic radiation from a second interactive element, wherein the first characteristic and the second characteristic are different from one another.

The wearable device of claim 1 , comprising a first communication component and a second communication component, wherein the first communication component is configured to communicate over a first distance range and the second communication component is configured to communicate over a second distance range less than the first distance range.

The wearable device of claim 2 , wherein the one or more light emitters comprise a plurality of light emitters, and wherein the wearable device is configured to control the plurality of light emitters to emit light in response to receipt of the respective electromagnetic radiation at the second communication component.

The wearable device of claim 2 , wherein the first communication component is configured to communicate with a first reader associated with the first interactive element via the respective electromagnetic radiation at a first frequency range between approximately 300 megahertz to 3 gigahertz, and the second communication component is configured to communicate with a second reader associated with the second interactive element via the respective electromagnetic radiation at a second frequency range between approximately 10 to 20 megahertz.
5 . The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one light emitter of the one or more light emitters is configured to emit infrared light.
6 . The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the wearable device is configured to be worn or carried by a user.
7 . The wearable device of claim 1 , wherein the first interactive element and the second interactive element comprise one or more rendered images, one or more virtual elements, one or more graphical elements, one or more physical objects, one or more targets, one or more costumed characters, or any combination thereof.
8 . A system, comprising:
a device configured to be worn or carried by a user and comprising:
one or more light emitters; and
a communication component; and
a computing system comprising:
a processor system comprising one or more processors; and
memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor system, cause the processor system to determine a position of the device based on respective electromagnetic radiation provided by the communication component, based on light emitted by the one or more light emitters, or both.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor system, cause the processor system to identify an interaction between the device and an interactive element of an attraction based on the position of the device.
10 . The system of claim 8 , comprising a reader communicatively coupled to the communication component and the computing system, wherein the reader is configured to receive the respective electromagnetic radiation provided by the communication component.
11 . The system of claim 8 , comprising a light detector communicatively coupled to the computing system and configured to detect the light emitted by the one or more light emitters.
12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor system, cause the processor system to determine that the position of the device is within a region of an attraction based on the respective electromagnetic radiation provided by the communication component.
13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the device is configured to control at least one light emitter of the one or more light emitters to emit the light in response to receipt of respective electromagnetic radiation at the communication component.
14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the device comprises an additional communication component, the communication component is configured to communicate via respective electromagnetic radiation over a first distance range, and the additional communication component is configured to communicate via respective electromagnetic radiation over a second distance range less than the first distance range.
15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor system, cause the processor system to determine the position of the device based on the respective electromagnetic radiation provided by the communication component and the respective electromagnetic radiation provided by the additional communication component.
16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor system, cause the processor system to:
determine that the position of the device is within a region of an attraction based on the respective electromagnetic radiation provided by the communication component; and
determine that the position of the device indicates an interaction between the device and an interactive element of the attraction based on the respective electromagnetic radiation provided by the additional communication component.
17 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor system, cause the processor system to award points based on the position of the device and backscattered data included in the respective electromagnetic radiation provided by the communication component.
18 . A system, comprising:
a device configured to be worn or carried by a user and comprising:
a first communication component; and
a second communication component;
a first reader configured to communicate with the first communication component via respective electromagnetic radiation at a first frequency range;
a second reader configured to communicate with the second communication component via respective electromagnetic radiation at a second frequency range; and
a computing system communicatively coupled to the first reader and the second reader and comprising:
a processor system comprising one or more processors; and
memory storing instructions that, when executed by the processor system, cause the processor system to determine a position of the device based on respective electromagnetic radiation transmitted from the first communication component to the first reader, respective electromagnetic radiation transmitted from the second communication component to the second reader, or both.
19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the device comprises:
one or more light emitters; and
wherein the device is configured to control at least one light emitter of the one or more light emitters to emit light in response to receipt of the respective electromagnetic radiation from the first reader at the first communication component, receipt of the respective electromagnetic radiation from the second reader at the second communication component, or both.
20 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the first reader is associated with an area of an attraction, and the second reader is associated with an interactive element within the area of the attraction.
