Abstract

Provided is a display device including a sensor, a display, and at least one processor configured to display a high dynamic range (HDR) image having a first brightness range on the display, and display an HDR image having a second brightness range on the display based on a user being identified by the sensor as being within a predetermined distance from the display while the HDR image having the first brightness range is displayed, wherein a maximum value of the second brightness range is less than a maximum value of the first brightness range.

Claims (55)

1 . A display device comprising:

a sensor;

a display; and

at least one processor configured to:

display a high dynamic range (HDR) image having a first brightness range on the display; and

display an HDR image having a second brightness range on the display based on a user being identified by the sensor as being within a predetermined distance from the display while the HDR image having the first brightness range is displayed,

wherein a maximum value of the second brightness range is less than a maximum value of the first brightness range,

wherein the maximum value of the first brightness range is peak brightness of the display,

wherein the maximum value of the second brightness range is maximum brightness of the display.

2 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to identify the user being within the predetermined distance from the display based on the user being detected by the sensor as being within the predetermined distance from the display.

3 . The device as claimed in claim 2 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

identify the user as being within the predetermined distance from the display based on the user being detected by the sensor as being in front of the display and within the predetermined distance from the display device; and

identify the user as not being within the predetermined distance from the display based on the user being detected by the sensor as being behind the display device and within the predetermined distance from the display device.

4 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to display the HDR image having the first brightness range on the display based on the user being identified by the sensor as not being within the predetermined distance from the display while the HDR image having the second brightness range is displayed.

5 . The device as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

display the HDR image having the second brightness range on the display for a predetermined time from a time point at which the user is identified as not being within the predetermined distance from the display; and

display the HDR image having the first brightness range on the display based on the predetermined time elapsing.

6 . The device as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to maintain the HDR image having the second brightness range being displayed on the display based on the user being identified by the sensor as being within the predetermined distance from the display within the predetermined time.

7 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to display the HDR image having the second brightness range on the display based on at least one user among the plurality of users in a vicinity of the display being identified by the sensor as being within the predetermined distance from the display while the HDR image having the first brightness range is displayed.

8 . The device as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

identify a feature of the user within the predetermined distance from the display;

display the HDR image having the second brightness range on the display based on the feature of the user being a first feature; and

display an HDR image having a third brightness range on the display based on the feature of the user being a second feature,

wherein the feature of the user is determined based on an age of the user, and

wherein a maximum value of the third brightness range is less than the maximum value of the second brightness range.

9 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

identify a user gaze direction by the sensor; and

display a partial image of the HDR image that is displayed in a region corresponding to the gaze direction on the display in the second brightness range.

10 . An image display method of a display device including a sensor, the method comprising:

displaying a high dynamic range (HDR) image having a first brightness range on a display; and

displaying an HDR image having a second brightness range on the display based on a user being identified by the sensor as being within a predetermined distance from the display while the HDR image having the first brightness range is displayed,

wherein a maximum value of the second brightness range is less than a maximum value of the first brightness range,

wherein the maximum value of the first brightness range is peak brightness of the display, and

wherein the maximum value of the second brightness range is maximum brightness of the display.

11 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , further comprising identifying the user as being within the predetermined distance from the display based on the user being detected by the sensor as being within a predetermined distance from the display.

12 . The method as claimed in claim 11 , further comprising:

identifying the user as being within the predetermined distance from the display based on the user being detected by the sensor as being in front of the display and within the predetermined distance from the display device; and

identifying the user as not being within the predetermined distance from the display based on the user being detected by the sensor as being behind the display device and within the predetermined distance from the display device.

13 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , further comprising displaying the HDR image having the first brightness range on the display based on the user being identified by the sensor as not being within the predetermined distance from the display while the HDR image having the second brightness range is displayed.

14 . The method as claimed in claim 12 , further comprising:

displaying the HDR image having the second brightness range on the display for a predetermined time from a time point at which the user is identified as not being within the predetermined distance from the display; and

displaying the HDR image having the first brightness range on the display based on the predetermined time elapsing.

15 . The method as claimed in claim 14 , further comprising:

maintaining the HDR image having the second brightness range being displayed on the display based on the user being identified by the sensor as being within the predetermined distance from the display within the predetermined time.

16 . The method as claimed in claim 10 , further comprising:

displaying the HDR image having the second brightness range on the display based on at least one user among the plurality of users in a vicinity of the display being identified by the sensor as being within the predetermined distance from the display while the HDR image having the first brightness range is displayed.
