Abstract

In a method of media streaming in a client device, a media stream carrying media content is received. The media content from the media stream is presented. A request that the client device provide media asset information is received from a server device and according to a bidirectional protocol for immersive media distribution. The media asset information is sent to the server device by the client device and according to the bidirectional protocol. The media asset information indicates at least one media asset location of a media asset that is accessible to the client device.

Claims (78)

1 . A method of media streaming in a client device, comprising:

receiving a media stream carrying media content;

presenting the media content from the media stream;

receiving, from a server device and according to a bidirectional protocol for immersive media distribution, a request that the client device provide media asset information; and

the media asset information indicates at least one media asset that is accessible to the client device,

the media asset information includes a current state of an asset type and one of a server assigned identifier or an asset uniform resource identifier (URI) that enables the server device to share the at least one media asset with another client device, and

the media asset information includes a list of types of media assets that are sharable and a URI for each of the at least one media asset that is cached in an immutable storage.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, from the server device and according to the bidirectional protocol, a request for one or more specific characteristics of the client device, the one or more specific characteristics including at least one of:

a computing resource of the client device;

a storage resource of the client device;

a service level agreement of a network service provider at the client device;

an immersive application requirement;

a type of the client device;

a model of the client device; and

a neural network model at the client device.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

transmitting, according to the bidirectional protocol, a first message to inform the server device of one or more specific characteristics of the client device; and

receiving, according to the bidirectional protocol, a second message for an acknowledgement of the server device.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, according to the bidirectional protocol, a first message of requests for providing one or more specific characteristics of the client device; and

transmitting, according to the bidirectional protocol, a second message to inform the server device of the one or more specific characteristics of the client device.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the receiving the media stream carrying the media content further comprises at least one of:

receiving the media stream based on a request from the server device to the client device; and

receiving the media stream based on a request from the client device to the server device.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media asset information includes a status update of each of the at least one media asset that is accessible to the client device.

7 . A client device for immersive media processing, comprising:

processing circuitry configured to:

receive a media stream carrying media content;

present the media content from the media stream;

receive, from a server device and according to a bidirectional protocol for immersive media distribution, a request that the client device provide media asset information; and

send, according to the bidirectional protocol, the media asset information to the server device, wherein

the media asset information indicates at least one media asset that is accessible to the client device,

the media asset information includes a current state of an asset type and one of a server assigned identifier or an asset uniform resource identifier (URI) that enables the server device to share the at least one media asset with another client device, and

the media asset information includes a list of types of media assets that are sharable and a URI for each of the at least one media asset that is cached in an immutable storage.

8 . The client device of claim 7 , wherein the processing circuitry is configured to:

receive, from the server device and according to the bidirectional protocol, a request for one or more specific characteristics of the client device, the one or more specific characteristics including at least one of:

a computing resource of the client device;

a storage resource of the client device;

a service level agreement of a network service provider at the client device;

an immersive application requirement;

a type of the client device;

a model of the client device; and

a neural network model at the client device.

9 . The client device of claim 7 , wherein the processing circuitry is configured to:

transmit, according to the bidirectional protocol, a first message to inform the server device of one or more specific characteristics of the client device; and

receive, according to the bidirectional protocol, a second message for an acknowledgement of the server device.

10 . The client device of claim 7 , wherein the processing circuitry is configured to:

receive, according to the bidirectional protocol, a first message of requests for providing one or more specific characteristics of the client device; and

transmit, according to the bidirectional protocol, a second message to inform the server device of the one or more specific characteristics of the client device.

11 . The client device of claim 7 , wherein, to receive the media stream carrying the media content, the processing circuitry is configured to perform at least one of:

receiving the media stream based on a request from the server device to the client device; and

receiving the media stream based on a request from the client device to the server device.

12 . The client device of claim 7 , wherein the media asset information includes a status update of each of the at least one media asset that is accessible to the client device.

13 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which when executed by at least one processor in a client device cause the client device to perform:

receiving a media stream carrying media content;

presenting the media content from the media stream;

receiving, from a server device and according to a bidirectional protocol for immersive media distribution, a request that the client device provide media asset information; and
