Cell selection based on quality of experience parameters
View Patent ↗A method of quality of experience (QoE) measurement and reporting includes receiving, by a user equipment (UE) in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state, an RRC release message indicating transitioning of the UE from the RRC connected state to an RRC idle state or an RRC inactive state, selecting or reselecting, while in the RRC idle state or the RRC inactive state, a first cell provided by a first base station (BS), camping on the first cell and determining whether to remain camped on the first cell based on one or more QoE parameters associated with the first cell.
1 . A method of quality of experience (QoE) measurement and reporting, comprising the steps of:
receiving, by a user equipment (UE) in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state, an RRC release message indicating transitioning of the UE from the RRC connected state to an RRC idle state or an RRC inactive state;
selecting or reselecting, while in the RRC idle state or the RRC inactive state, a first cell provided by a first base station (BS);
camping on the first cell;
receiving, from the first BS and in response to camping on the first cell, and while in the RRC idle or the RRC inactive state, system information indicating one or more QoE parameters associated with the first cell; and
determining whether to remain camped on the first cell while staying in the RRC idle state or the RRC inactive state based on the one or more QoE parameters.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising performing measurements for a plurality of cells, including the first cell, provided by a plurality of base stations (BSs), including the first BS.
3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising determining, based on the measurements, a plurality of signal strength parameters associated with the plurality of cells.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of signal strength parameters comprises a plurality of received signal received power (RSRP) parameters.
5 . The method of claim 2 , further comprise determining, based on the measurements, a plurality of signal quality parameters associated with the plurality of cells.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of signal quality parameters comprises a plurality of received signal received quality (RSRQ) parameters.
7 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the selecting or the reselecting of the first cell is based on the measurements.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the system information is received based on one or more system information blocks (SIBs).
9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising monitoring a paging channel in response to camping on the first cell.
10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising performing cell reselection evaluation in response to camping on the first cell.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more quality of experience (QoE) parameters indicates whether QoE measurement and reporting is enabled for the first cell.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the user equipment (UE) determines to remain camped on the first cell based on the one or more quality of experience (QoE) parameters indicating that QoE measurement and reporting is enabled for the first cell.
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more quality of experience (QoE) parameters indicates whether QoE measurement and reporting is provided by the first base station (BS).
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the user equipment (UE) determines to remain camped on the first cell based on the one or more quality of experience (QoE) parameters indicating that QoE measurement and reporting is provided by the first base station (BS).
15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the radio resource control (RRC) release message indicates transitioning of the user equipment (UE) from the RRC connected state to the RRC idle state.
16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the radio resource control (RRC) release message comprises a suspend config information element (IE) indicating transitioning of the user equipment (UE) from the RRC connected state to the RRC inactive state.
17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:
the radio resource control (RRC) release message comprises one or more first parameters; and
the selecting or the reselecting the first cell is further based on the one or more first parameters.
18 . A method of quality of experience (QoE) measurement and reporting, comprising the steps of:
receiving, by a user equipment (UE) in a radio resource control (RRC) connected state, an RRC release message indicating transitioning of the UE from the RRC connected state to an RRC idle state or an RRC inactive state;
selecting or reselecting, while in the RRC idle state or the RRC inactive state, a first cell provided by a first base station (BS);
camping on the first cell;
receiving, from the first BS and in response to camping on the first cell, and while in the RRC idle or the RRC inactive state, system information indicating one or more QoE parameters associated with the first cell; and
determining whether to remain camped on the first cell while staying in the RRC idle state or the RRC inactive state based on the one or more QoE parameters, wherein the one or more quality of experience (QoE) parameters indicate that QoE measurement and reporting is not enabled for the first cell or is not provided by the first base station (BS).
19 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising determining to select or reselect a new cell.
