Abstract

A mattress system is provided that is optimized for the hospital setting and includes a guiderail system that accepts a variety of accessories for attachment thereto. The guiderail system may have integrated data lines, power lines, gas lines, and/or fluid lines. Also provided are radioabsorbant shields, trays and other components designed for optimal use with the mattress system.

Claims (56)

1 . A radiation shield system, comprising:

a first radiation shield comprised of a first vertically-oriented rectangular panel; and

a second radiation shield comprised of a second vertically-oriented rectangular panel;

wherein the first radiation shield is configured to be positioned transversely across a width of a patient platform in a vertical orientation; and,

wherein the second radiation shield is oriented perpendicularly with respect to the first radiation shield.

2 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein an upper edge of the first radiation shield is at a higher elevation than an upper edge of the second radiation shield.

3 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein a lower edge of the first radiation shield is at a lower elevation than a lower edge of the second radiation shield.

4 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein the first radiation shield is adjustable with respect to the second radiation shield.

5 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of a lower edge of the first radiation shield is configured to be elevated above an upper surface of the patient platform.

6 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of a lower edge of the second radiation shield is configured to be elevated above an upper surface of the patient platform.

7 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein the first radiation shield is configured to be positioned transversely over a body of a patient on the patient platform.

8 . The radiation shield system of claim 7 , wherein the second radiation shield is configured to be positioned over an arm of the patient on the patient platform.

9 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein a width of the first radiation shield is equal to or greater than a width of the patient platform.

10 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein a side edge of the first radiation shield is positioned near a side edge of the second radiation shield.

11 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein the first radiation shield is pivotable about a hinge.

12 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein the patient platform comprises an arm board.

13 . The radiation shield system of claim 12 , wherein the second radiation shield is parallel to the arm board.

14 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein the patient platform comprises a table.

15 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein the first radiation shield and the second radiation shield each comprise a substantially rigid radiation-attenuating panel.

16 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein the first radiation shield and the second radiation shield are pivotable relative to one another about a generally vertical axis.

17 . The radiation shield system of claim 16 , wherein the first radiation shield and the second radiation shield each comprise a substantially rigid radiation-attenuating panel.

18 . The radiation shield system of claim 1 , wherein the second radiation shield is pivotable about a vertical axis relative to the first radiation shield.

19 . A radiation shield system, comprising:

a patient platform;

a first radiation shield comprised of a first vertically-oriented rectangular panel; and

a second radiation shield comprised of a second vertically-oriented rectangular panel;

wherein the first radiation shield is positioned transversely across a width of the patient platform in a vertical orientation;

wherein the second radiation shield is oriented perpendicularly with respect to the first radiation shield; and,

wherein a longitudinal axis of the second radiation shield is parallel to a longitudinal axis of the patient platform.

20 . The radiation shield system of claim 19 , wherein at least a portion of a lower edge of the first radiation shield is elevated above an upper surface of the patient platform.

21 . The radiation shield system of claim 20 , wherein at least a portion of a lower edge of the second radiation shield is elevated above the upper surface of the patient platform.

22 . The radiation shield system of claim 19 , wherein the first radiation shield is adjustable with respect to the second radiation shield.

23 . The radiation shield system of claim 19 , wherein a width of the first radiation shield is equal to or greater than a width of the patient platform.

24 . The radiation shield system of claim 19 , wherein the first radiation shield and the second radiation shield each comprise a substantially rigid radiation-attenuating panel.

25 . The radiation shield system of claim 19 , wherein the first radiation shield and the second radiation shield are pivotable relative to one another about a generally vertical axis.

26 . The radiation shield system of claim 25 , wherein the first radiation shield and the second radiation shield each comprise a substantially rigid radiation-attenuating panel.

27 . The radiation shield system of claim 19 , wherein the second radiation shield is pivotable about a vertical axis relative to the first radiation shield.

28 . A radiation shield system, comprising:

a first radiation shield comprised of a first substantially rigid, vertically-oriented rectangular panel; and

a second radiation shield comprised of a second substantially rigid, vertically-oriented rectangular panel;

wherein the first radiation shield is configured to be positioned transversely across a width of a patient platform; and,

wherein the second radiation shield is configured to be positioned parallel along a length of the patient platform.

29 . The radiation shield system of claim 28 , wherein the first radiation shield and the second radiation shield are pivotable relative to one another about a generally vertical axis.

30 . The radiation shield system of claim 28 , wherein the first radiation shield is vertically oriented when positioned transversely across the width of the patient platform in a vertical orientation.

31 . The radiation shield system of claim 30 , wherein the second radiation shield is vertically oriented when positioned parallel to the length of the patient platform.
