Methods and compositions to increase hair growth and/or prevent hair loss
In one aspect, the disclosure relates to topical formulations, methods of making same, and methods of treating hair loss using same. In an aspect, the present disclosure pertains to topical formulations for treatment of hair loss and/or to increase hair growth, the formulation comprising: a therapeutic composition comprising therapeutically effective amounts of azelaic acid, minoxidil, finasteride, and dutasteride; and one or more compounding agents. In a further aspect, the present disclosure pertains to a method of treating hair loss by applying a disclosed topical formulation. In a further aspect, the present disclosure pertains to a method of enhancing hair grow by applying a disclosed topical formulation. 1 . A topical formulation comprising:
a therapeutic composition comprising (i) minoxidil or a salt thereof and (ii) finasteride or dutasteride; and
one or more compounding agents, wherein the compounding agent comprises a silicone base in the amount of 15 wt % to 50 wt % of the formulation.
2 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the silicone base comprises cyclopentasiloxane, polysilicone-11, C30-45 alkyl cetearyl dimethicone crosspolymer, dimethiconol, phenyl trimethicone, PEG PPG dimethicone, dimethicone, or any combination thereof.
3 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the silicone base further comprises a one or more C6-C24 fatty acids.
4 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the silicone base further comprises an Carapa guaianensis seed oil, macadamia nut oil, laureth-4, PEG 30 dipolyhydroxystearate, or any combination thereof.
5 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the silicone base comprises cyclopentasiloxane, dimethicone, and C30-45 alkyl cetearyl dimethicone crosspolymer.
6 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the one or more compounding agents further comprise ethoxy diglycol, propylene glycol, a gel base for gel-cream emulsions, a cream base, or any combination thereof.
7 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the formulation further comprises azelaic acid.
8 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the formulation further comprises caffeine, saw palmetto extract, or a combination thereof.
9 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein the topical formulation comprises pracaxi oil.
10 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein minoxidil or the salt thereof is in the amount of 1 wt % to 20 wt % of the formulation.
11 . The topical formulation of claim 1 , wherein minoxidil or the salt thereof is in the amount of 10 wt % to 20 wt % of the formulation.
12 . A topical formulation comprising:
a therapeutic composition comprising (i) minoxidil or a salt thereof and (ii) finasteride or dutasteride; and
a compounding agent comprising (a) a silicone base comprising (i) cyclopentasiloxane, a dimethicone, C30-45 alkyl cetearyl dimethicone crosspolymer, or any combination thereof and (ii) a cross-linked siloxane and (b) an oil comprising oleic acid, linoleic acid, or a combination thereof.
13 . The topical formulation of claim 12 , wherein the silicone base further comprises a one or more C6-C24 fatty acids.
14 . The topical formulation of claim 12 , wherein the silicone base is in the amount of 15 wt % to 50 wt % of the formulation.
15 . The topical formulation of claim 12 , wherein the formulation further comprises azelaic acid.
16 . The topical formulation of claim 12 , wherein minoxidil or the salt thereof is in the amount of 1 wt % to 20 wt % of the formulation.
17 . The topical formulation of claim 12 , wherein minoxidil or the salt thereof is in the amount of 10 wt % to 20 wt % of the formulation.
18 . The topical formulation of claim 12 , wherein the formulation further comprises caffeine, saw palmetto extract, or a combination thereof.
19 . The topical formulation of claim 12 , wherein the topical formulation comprises pracaxi oil.
20 . A topical formulation comprising:
a therapeutic composition comprising (i) minoxidil or a salt thereof and (ii) finasteride or dutasteride; and
one or more compounding agents,
wherein minoxidil or the salt thereof is in the amount of 10 wt % to 20 wt % of the formulation.
21 . The topical formulation of claim 20 , wherein the formulation further comprises azelaic acid.
22 . The topical formulation of claim 20 , wherein the one or more compounding agents comprise a silicone base.
23 . The topical formulation of claim 22 , wherein the silicone base comprises cyclopentasiloxane, polysilicone-11, C30-45 alkyl cetearyl dimethicone crosspolymer, dimethiconol, phenyl trimethicone, PEG PPG dimethicone, dimethicone, or any combination thereof.
24 . The topical formulation of claim 22 , wherein the silicone base further comprises a one or more C6-C24 fatty acids.
25 . A method for treating hair loss, enhancing hair growth, improving scalp health, or any combination thereof in a subject, the method comprising applying the topical formulation of claim 1 to the hair and/or scalp of the subject.
26 . A method for treating hair loss, enhancing hair growth, improving scalp health, or any combination thereof in a subject, the method comprising applying the topical formulation of claim 12 to the hair and/or scalp of the subject.
27 . A method for treating hair loss, enhancing hair growth, improving scalp health, or any combination thereof in a subject, the method comprising applying the topical formulation of claim 20 to the hair and/or scalp of the subject.
