Abstract

A dialysis machine includes a user interface for providing visual information and/or spoken information to a user. For example, in some implementations, the user interface may be configured to provide visual information related to an action, such as showing the action being partially or fully completed, and a speaker can provide spoken instructions to assist the user in machine set-up, calibration and/or operation. Such instructions can be particularly useful in a home dialysis setting. In some implementations, the speaker can provide spoken alarms that are related to alarm conditions. The spoken alarms may include patient and/or dialysis machine identifying information. The verbosity of the spoken instructions and/or the spoken alarms may be adjustable, and both may be accompanied by visual information displayed by the dialysis machine (e.g. visual alarms, images and/or video).

Claims (29)

1 . A dialysis system comprising:

a dialysis machine;

a user interface; and

an instruction component configured to

determine that an action regarding a dialysis treatment or the dialysis machine has not yet been completed, and

cause the user interface to display visual information related to the action, wherein the visual information includes an image or a video that indicates one or more sub- actions to be performed towards completing the action

wherein the visual information includes one or more visual instructions displayed on the user interface, wherein a visual instruction is followed by a delay, and wherein the dialysis system is configured to provide a subsequent visual instruction in response to receiving an input from the user confirming that a sub-action indicated by the visual instruction is completed.

2 . The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein each sub-action is presented, at least partly, as one or more instructions to direct a user to perform at least part of the action.

3 . The dialysis system of claim 2 , wherein the instructions provide a step-by-step direction for completing the action.

4 . The dialysis system of claim 2 , wherein the instructions are displayed or highlighted on the user interface in a sequence with respective predefined delays between displaying or highlighting consecutive instructions.

5 . The dialysis system of claim 2 , wherein a second instruction is displayed or highlighted on the user interface in response to receiving a user interaction with the dialysis system subsequent to a display or a highlight of a first instruction on the user interface.

6 . The dialysis system of claim 5 , wherein receiving the user interaction includes receiving an input from the user confirming that a sub-action presented by the first instruction is completed.

7 . The dialysis system of claim 2 , wherein at least one of the one or more instructions is displayed as a written instruction.

8 . The dialysis system of claim 2 , wherein the dialysis system is configured to:

detect when a sub-action corresponding to an already-presented instruction is completed, and in response,

cause a subsequent instruction to be displayed on the user interface.

9 . The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the image or the video includes (i) a representation of one or more components of the dialysis machine, and (ii) one or more graphical user interface (GUI) indicators each being associated with a respective component of the dialysis machine where a sub-action is to be performed.

10 . The dialysis machine of claim 9 , wherein the visual information includes one or more instructions that when performed by a user cause the action to be completed, wherein each graphical user interface indicator is associated with a respective instruction in the one or more instructions.

11 . The dialysis machine of claim 10 , wherein the instructions are displayed or highlighted on the user interface in a series manner.

12 . The dialysis machine of claim 10 , wherein each time an instruction is displayed or highlighted on the user interface, a respective graphical user interface indicator associated with the instruction is displayed or highlighted to assist a user in finding a corresponding component of the dialysis machine to which the instruction is directed.

13 . The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the action relates to at least one of setting up the dialysis machine for the dialysis treatment, setting up an arterial line, flushing saline, starting the dialysis treatment, or ending the dialysis treatment.

14 . The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the image or the video shows the action as being at least partially completed.

15 . The dialysis system of claim 1 , further comprising a speaker,

wherein the instruction component is further configured to cause the speaker to provide spoken instructions to direct a user to perform at least part of the action.

16 . The dialysis system of claim 15 , wherein at least part of the visual information provided on the user interface includes a visual representation of the spoken instructions.

17 . The dialysis system of claim 16 , wherein each sub-action indicated in the image or the video of the visual information is also presented in one or more respective spoken instructions.

18 . The dialysis system of claim 16 , wherein each visual instruction corresponding to respective one or more spoken instructions provided by the speaker.

19 . The dialysis system of claim 18 , wherein a spoken instruction is followed by the delay, and wherein the dialysis system provides a subsequent spoken instruction in response to receiving the input from the user.

20 . The dialysis system of claim 15 , wherein the visual information includes written instructions that each corresponds to respective one or more spoken instructions.
