Abstract

Disclosed herein are techniques related to delivery of correction boluses. In some embodiments, the techniques involve obtaining data indicative of an ongoing glycemic response to a meal; and causing delivery of one or more correction boluses to at least partially counteract the ongoing glycemic response to the meal.

Claims (50)

1 . A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more processor-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of:

obtaining data indicative of an ongoing glycemic response to a meal, the data comprising glucose concentration measurements evaluated in combination with estimated plasma insulin concentration values; and

causing delivery of one or more correction boluses to at least partially counteract the ongoing glycemic response to the meal, the correction boluses being [i] delivered instead of or in addition to a meal bolus delivered for the meal and [ii] delivered after detection of the ongoing glycemic response to the meal.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein causing delivery of the one or more correction boluses comprises:

reducing a target glucose value from a first glucose value to a second glucose value;

determining an amount of a correction bolus based on a difference between a current glucose value and the reduced target glucose value; and

increasing the reduced target glucose value from the second glucose value to the first glucose value.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the target glucose value is separate from a target glucose value used for basal dosages.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein causing delivery of the one or more correction boluses comprises:

reducing a parameter from a first parameter value to a second parameter value;

determining an augmented amount of a correction bolus based on the reduced parameter; and

increasing the reduced parameter from the second parameter value to the first parameter value.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the parameter is an insulin sensitivity factor.

6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more processor-readable media further store instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of:

after causing delivery of the one or more correction boluses, causing delivery of a meal bolus.

7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein causing delivery of the meal bolus comprises:

determining a potential amount for the meal bolus;

determining a total amount of insulin delivered as the one or more correction boluses; and

determining a reduced amount for the meal bolus based on subtracting, from the potential amount for the meal bolus, the total amount of insulin delivered as the one or more correction boluses.

8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the data indicative of the ongoing glycemic response to the meal comprises an output generated by a meal detection model.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the output is generated based on applying the meal detection model to a plurality of glucose concentration values corresponding with a plurality of plasma insulin concentration estimations.

10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein causing delivery of the one or more correction boluses comprises communicating one or more signals to an insulin delivery device.

11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein causing delivery of the one or more correction boluses comprises communicating one or more signals to an actuator associated with an insulin reservoir.

12 . A processor-implemented method comprising:

obtaining data indicative of an ongoing glycemic response to a meal, the data comprising glucose concentration measurements evaluated in combination with estimated plasma insulin concentration values; and

causing delivery of one or more correction boluses to at least partially counteract the ongoing glycemic response to the meal, the correction boluses being [i] delivered instead of or in addition to a meal bolus delivered for the meal and [ii] delivered after detection of the ongoing glycemic response to the meal.

13 . The processor-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein causing delivery of the one or more correction boluses comprises:

reducing a target glucose value from a first glucose value to a second glucose value;

determining an amount of a correction bolus based on a difference between a current glucose value and the reduced target glucose value; and

increasing the reduced target glucose value from the second glucose value to the first glucose value.

14 . The processor-implemented method of claim 13 , wherein the target glucose value is separate from a target glucose value used for basal dosages.

15 . The processor-implemented method of claim 12 , wherein causing delivery of the one or more correction boluses comprises:

reducing a parameter from a first parameter value to a second parameter value;

determining an amount of a correction bolus based on the reduced parameter; and

increasing the reduced parameter from the second parameter value to the first parameter value.

16 . The processor-implemented method of claim 15 , wherein the parameter is an insulin sensitivity factor.

17 . The processor-implemented method of claim 12 , further comprising:

after causing delivery of the one or more correction boluses, causing delivery of a meal bolus.

18 . The processor-implemented method of claim 17 , wherein causing delivery of the meal bolus comprises:

determining a total amount of insulin delivered as the one or more correction boluses; and

determining an amount of the meal bolus based on subtracting the total amount of insulin delivered as the one or more correction boluses.

19 . One or more processor-readable media storing instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause performance of:

obtaining data indicative of an ongoing glycemic response to a meal, the data comprising glucose concentration measurements evaluated in combination with estimated plasma insulin concentration values; and

causing delivery of one or more correction boluses to at least partially counteract the ongoing glycemic response to the meal, the correction boluses being [i] delivered instead of or in addition to a meal bolus delivered for the meal and [ii] delivered after detection of the ongoing glycemic response to the meal.

20 . The one or more processor-readable media of claim 19 , further storing instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause performance of:

reducing a target glucose value from a first glucose value to a second glucose value;

determining an amount of a correction bolus based on a difference between a current glucose value and the reduced target glucose value; and

increasing the reduced target glucose value from the second glucose value to the first glucose value.
