Athlete reaction-training systems and athlete agility-training systems
View Patent ↗An athlete agility-training system includes a frame and a plurality of mounting plates. Each mounting plate is removably secured to an associated position on the frame. The frame includes at least one athlete agility-training (or reaction-training) device removably secured to one of the plurality of mounting plates. Each mounting plate includes a shank portion that extends from a device-mounting portion. The device-mounting portion is planar and substantially circular. A first end portion of the shank of the mounting plate is unitary with a peripheral-edge portion of the planar and substantially circular device-mounting portion.
1 . An enhanced athlete-reaction and agility-training system, the system configured for fencing training and comprising:
a frame;
a plurality of mounting plates removably secured to the frame;
an athlete reaction-training device disposed on one of the plurality of mounting plates, the athlete reaction-training device including a light-emitting device and an impact-sensitive surface connected to the light-emitting device, wherein the light-emitting device ceases emitting light when the impact-sensitive surface is impacted; and
an enhanced athlete-reaction and agility-training device removably mounted on and operably associated with the athlete reaction-training device, wherein the enhanced athlete-reaction and agility-training device comprises:
a housing defining two apertures;
at least one microprocessor disposed in the housing;
an impact-generating mechanism contained within the housing, wherein the impact-generating mechanism includes a reciprocally translatable tapper member extendable and retractable through one of the two apertures;
a control unit in the housing, wherein the control unit is operably connected to the at least one microprocessor and the impact-generating mechanism; and
a motion sensor contained within the housing adjacent to the other one of the two apertures, wherein the motion sensor is operably connected to a power source and to the control unit, wherein the motion sensor is adapted and configured to project a motion-detecting beam through the other one of the two apertures, wherein the enhanced athlete-reaction and agility-training device is removably secured to the athlete reaction-training device, wherein movement of a person or a thing toward or transverse to the motion sensor when sensed by the motion sensor causes the reciprocally translatable tapper member to tap the impact-sensitive surface, thereby ending light emission.
2 . The enhanced athlete-reaction and agility-training system of claim 1 , further comprising:
a base secured to the frame;
a vertically disposed member secured to the base;
at least one arm secured to the vertically disposed member and disposed transverse to the vertically disposed member;
a leg having an upper portion and a lower portion, wherein the upper portion is configured to be disposed toward a reaction-training athlete and includes a first end portion secured to the vertically disposed member and a second end portion comprising a knee spaced from the first end portion of the upper portion, wherein the lower portion of the leg includes a first end portion secured to the knee, wherein the lower portion of the leg includes a second end portion spaced from the first end portion of the lower portion of the leg, and wherein the second end portion of the lower portion is configured to contact a surface upon which the reaction-training athlete is standing.
3 . The enhanced athlete-reaction and agility-training system of claim 1 , wherein the athlete reaction-training device further includes:
at least one other microprocessor;
a controller operatively connected to the at least one other microprocessor; and
a timer operatively connected to the at least one other microprocessor and the controller, wherein the controller, upon receiving a signal from the timer, causes the light-emitting device to emit light flashes for a preselected length of time.
4 . The enhanced athlete-reaction and agility-training system of claim 3 , wherein the power source is connected to the light-emitting device, the impact-sensitive surface, the timer, the controller, and the at least one microprocessor, and wherein the power source comprises at least one battery or an electrical connection to an electrical power provider.
5 . The enhanced athlete-reaction and agility-training system of claim 4 , further comprising a sound-emitting device operatively connected to at least one of the light-emitting device, the impact-sensitive surface, the timer, the controller, and the at least one microprocessor, wherein the sound-emitting device is operatively connected to the power source.
