Abstract

A can end includes a rivet button extending upward from the can end. The rivet button includes a head with a rounded profile. The rounded profile includes a plurality of curvatures. Each curvature has a distinct radius of curvature. The plurality of curvatures assists in forming the rivet button into a rivet.

Claims (14)

1 . A can end, comprising:

a rivet button extending upward from the can end, the rivet button comprising a top portion with a sidewall having a rounded profile, the rounded profile comprising three or more curvatures defined between the top portion of the rounded profile and a medial portion of the sidewall, each curvature having a distinct radius of curvature.

2 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of curvatures comprises a first curvature with a first radius at a top portion of the rounded profile, a second curvature with a second radius at transition portion of the rounded profile, and a third curvature with a third radius at a sidewall of the rounded profile, wherein the first radius, the second radius, and the third radius are not equal.

3 . The can end of claim 2 , wherein the first radius is greater than the second radius, and wherein the second radius is greater than the third radius.

4 . The can end of claim 2 , wherein the first radius is between 0.3000 and 0.5000 inches, the second radius is between 0.0380 and 0.0780 inches, and the third radius is between 0.0110 and 0.0310 inches.

5 . The can end of claim 2 , wherein the first radius is between 0.2750 and 0.4750 inches, the second radius is between 0.0400 and 0.0800 inches, and the third radius is between 0.0040 and 0.0240 inches.

6 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the rivet button is formed from a relieved bubble previously disposed on the can end.

7 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the rivet button has a diameter of 0.1478 inches.

8 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the rivet button has a height between 0.037 and 0.077 inches.

9 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the rivet button has a diameter of 0.1304 inches.

10 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the rivet button has a height between 0.032 and 0.072 inches.

11 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the top portion and the sidewall of the rivet button are entirely rounded above a base of the sidewall.

12 . The can end of claim 10 , wherein the sidewall is convex between a top portion of the rivet button and a base of the sidewall of the transition portion.

13 . The can end of claim 1 , wherein the rivet button is free of any flat surfaces.
