Abstract

A filter apparatus positionable outside a washing machine and connectable to a drain device of the washing machine, the filter apparatus including a filter case configured so that, with the filter apparatus connected to the drain device, water from the drain device is flowable through the filter case; a filter detachably mountable inside the filter case; a filtering flow path inside the filter case so that water passes through the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case; a bypass flow path inside the filter case so that water bypasses the filter; at least one sensor to obtain information about the filter; an opening and closing device to open and close the bypass flow path to guide water flowing into the filter case to the filtering flow path or the bypass flow path; and a controller to control the opening and closing device based on the obtained information.

Claims (64)

1 . A filter apparatus positionable outside a washing machine and connectable to a drain device of the washing machine, the filter apparatus comprising:

a filter case configured so that, with the filter apparatus connected to the drain device, water from the drain device is flowable through the filter case;

a filter detachably mountable inside the filter case;

a filtering flow path formed inside the filter case so that water flowing through the filtering flow path passes through the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case;

a bypass flow path formed inside the filter case so that water flowing through the bypass flow path bypasses the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case;

at least one sensor configured to obtain information about a state of the filter;

an opening and closing device, including a connecting door to open and close the bypass flow path and a door motor to operate the connecting door, configured to close the bypass flow path so as to guide water flowing from the drain device into the filter case to the filtering flow path, and to open the bypass flow path so as to guide the water flowing from the drain device into the filter case to the bypass flow path; and

a controller configured to control the opening and closing device based on the obtained information about the state of the filter.

2 . The filter apparatus of claim 1 , wherein

the connecting door is located at a portion of the filter case where the filtering flow path and the bypass flow path diverge.

3 . The filter apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a moving part arranged to be inside the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case, and configured to be movable in a first direction inside the filter by foreign substances collected inside the filter,

wherein the at least one sensor is mounted on the filter case to detect movement of the moving part.

4 . The filter apparatus of claim 3 , wherein

the moving part includes a magnetic body, and

the at least one sensor includes a magnetic sensor to detect movement of the magnetic body.

5 . The filter apparatus of claim 3 , further comprising:

an elastic body to apply an elastic force to the moving part in a second direction opposite to the first direction.

6 . The filter apparatus of claim 5 , further comprising:

a fixing guide configured to support the moving part so that the moving part is movable relative to the fixing guide,

wherein the moving part includes an interference protrusion configured to contact the fixing guide to limit a movement range of the moving part in the second direction.

7 . The filter apparatus of claim 3 , further comprising:

a deformable member covering at least a portion of the moving part and being deformable according to the movement of the moving part.

8 . The filter apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a cleaning member including a plurality of brushes configured to be rotatable and to contact a surface of the filter through which foreign substances are filtered while the filter is mounted in the filter case; and

a cleaning motor to generate power to operate the cleaning member,

wherein the at least one sensor includes a current sensor to sense a value of a driving current applied to the cleaning motor.

9 . The filter apparatus of claim 1 , wherein

the at least one sensor includes a water pressure sensor to sense water pressure of water flowing into the filter case.

10 . The filter apparatus of claim 1 , wherein

the controller controls the opening and closing device to guide water flowing into the filter case to the bypass flow path based on a determination that the filter is clogged while the filter is mounted in the filter case.

11 . The filter apparatus of claim 1 , wherein

the controller controls the opening and closing device to guide water flowing into the filter case to the filtering flow path based on a determination that the filter is not clogged while the filter is mounted in the filter case.

12 . The filter apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a display,

wherein the controller controls the display to provide visual feedback indicating clogging of the filter based on a detection of clogging of the filter while the filter is mounted in the filter case.

13 . The filter apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising:

a communication part configured to communicate with the washing machine,

wherein the controller controls the communication part to transmit a filter clogging notification message to a user terminal based on a detection of clogging of the filter while the filter is mounted in the filter case.

14 . A filter apparatus positionable outside a washing machine and connectable to a drain device of the washing machine, the filter apparatus comprising:

a filter case configured so that, with the filter apparatus connected to the drain device, water from the drain device is flowable through the filter case;

a filter detachably mountable inside the filter case;

a filtering flow path formed inside the filter case so that water flowing through the filtering flow path passes through the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case;

a bypass flow path formed inside the filter case so that water flowing through the bypass flow path bypasses the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case;

at least one sensor configured to obtain information about a state of the filter;

an opening and closing device, including a connecting door to open and close the bypass flow path and a door motor to operate the connecting door, configured to open and close the bypass flow path so as to guide water flowing from the drain device into the filter case to the filtering flow path or the bypass flow path;

a controller configured to control the opening and closing device based on the obtained information about the state of the filter;

a moving part arranged to be inside the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case, and configured to be movable in a first direction inside the filter by foreign substances collected inside the filter; and

an elastic body to apply an elastic force to the moving part in a second direction opposite to the first direction,

wherein the at least one sensor is mounted on the filter case to detect movement of the moving part.

15 . The filter apparatus of claim 14 , further comprising:

a fixing guide configured to support the moving part so that the moving part is movable relative to the fixing guide,

wherein the moving part includes an interference protrusion configured to contact the fixing guide to limit a movement range of the moving part in the second direction.

16 . A filter apparatus positionable outside a washing machine and connectable to a drain device of the washing machine, the filter apparatus comprising:

a filter case configured so that, with the filter apparatus connected to the drain device, water from the drain device is flowable through the filter case;

a filter detachably mountable inside the filter case;

a filtering flow path formed inside the filter case so that water flowing through the filtering flow path passes through the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case;

a bypass flow path formed inside the filter case so that water flowing through the bypass flow path bypasses the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case;

at least one sensor configured to obtain information about a state of the filter;

an opening and closing device, including a connecting door to open and close the bypass flow path and a door motor to operate the connecting door, configured to open and close the bypass flow path so as to guide water flowing from the drain device into the filter case to the filtering flow path or the bypass flow path;

a controller configured to control the opening and closing device based on the obtained information about the state of the filter;

a moving part arranged to be inside the filter while the filter is mounted inside the filter case, and configured to be movable in a first direction inside the filter by foreign substances collected inside the filter; and

a deformable member covering at least a portion of the moving part and being deformable according to movement of the moving part,

wherein the at least one sensor is mounted on the filter case to detect movement of the moving part.
