Downhole setting system for use in a wellbore
A downhole setting system for use in a wellbore, the system having a workstring, a setting tool assembly coupled with the workstring, and a downhole tool coupled with the setting tool assembly in a run-in configuration. In a set configuration the downhole tool is disconnected from the setting tool assembly. At least one component of the downhole tool is made of a dissolvable material.
1 . A downhole setting system for use in a wellbore, the system comprising:
a workstring;
a setting tool assembly coupled to the workstring, the setting tool assembly further comprising:
a tension mandrel comprising a first tension mandrel end;
a downhole tool comprising:
a mandrel comprising:
a distal end; a proximate end; an inner flowbore; an inner surface; a ball seat disposed on the inner surface; and an outer surface, a slip proximate the distal end; and a lower sleeve proximate to the slip in a run-in configuration,
wherein in the run-in configuration the tension mandrel is disposed through the downhole tool and in direct contact with the lower sleeve,
wherein in a set configuration the tension mandrel is no longer in direct contact with the lower sleeve, and the tension mandrel is removed from the downhole tool, while at the same time the lower sleeve remains coupled with and part of the downhole tool,
wherein the slip comprises an at least one slip groove that forms a lateral opening in the slip that is defined by the at least one slip groove having a depth that extends from a slip outer surface to a slip inner surface; and
wherein the inner surface comprises a first inner surface having a constant first inner diameter from the ball seat to the distal end, and wherein the inner surface has a second inner surface between the ball seat and the proximate end of a second inner diameter that is larger than the first inner diameter.

The downhole setting system of claim 1 , wherein the outer surface comprises a first angled surface and a second angled surface, wherein the mandrel further comprises a crest on the outer surface, wherein the first angled surface is disposed between the distal end and the crest, and the second angled surface is disposed between the proximate end and the crest, and wherein the outer surface is void of threads.
3 . The downhole setting system of claim 2 , wherein regardless of the run-in configuration or the set configuration a relative position of the ball seat is disposed between the carrier ring and the slip.
4 . The downhole setting system of claim 2 , wherein the downhole tool further comprises a carrier ring disposed on the second angled surface, and wherein a seal element is disposed in a carrier ring groove formed in the carrier ring.
5 . The downhole setting system of claim 4 , wherein the ball seat is integral to the mandrel.
6 . The downhole setting system of claim 5 , wherein the lower sleeve comprises a shear feature, and wherein a longitudinal length of the downhole tool after setting is in a set length range of at least 5 inches to no more than 15 inches.
7 . The downhole setting system of claim 1 , wherein the slip comprises an outer slip surface with at least one insert disposed therein, and wherein the downhole tool has the slip, and no other slips.
8 . A downhole setting system for use in a wellbore, the system comprising:
a setting tool assembly comprising:
a tension mandrel comprising a first tension mandrel end;
a downhole tool comprising:
a mandrel comprising:
a distal end; a proximate end; an inner flowbore; an inner surface; a ball seat formed on and integral to the inner surface at a location between the distal end and the proximate end; and an outer surface;
a carrier ring movingly disposed on the outer surface;
a slip proximate the distal end; and
a lower sleeve proximate with the slip in a run-in configuration,
wherein in the run-in configuration the tension mandrel is disposed through the downhole tool and in direct contact with the lower sleeve,
wherein in a set configuration the tension mandrel is is removed from the downhole tool,
wherein the outer surface comprises a first angled surface, a second angled surface, and a crest,
wherein the first angled surface is disposed between the distal end and the crest, and the second angled surface is disposed between the proximate end and the crest, and
wherein regardless of the run-in configuration or the set configuration a relative position of the ball seat is disposed between the carrier ring and the slip.
9 . The downhole setting system of claim 8 , wherein the slip comprises an at least one slip groove that forms a lateral opening in the slip, the at least one slip groove having a depth that extends from a slip outer surface to a slip inner surface.

The downhole setting system of claim 8 , wherein the crest comprises a crest wall thickness, wherein the distal end comprises a distal end wall thickness, wherein the proximate end comprises a proximate end wall thickness, and wherein the crest wall thickness is greater than each of the distal end wall thickness and the proximate end wall thickness.
11 . The downhole setting system of claim 10 , wherein the carrier ring is movingly disposed on the second angled surface.
12 . The downhole setting system of claim 11 , wherein at least one of the slip, the lower sleeve, and the mandrel is made of a composite material.
13 . The downhole setting system of claim 11 , wherein the first angled surface comprises a first plane that in reference to a longitudinal cross section view bisects a longitudinal axis at a first angle, and wherein the second angled surface comprises a second plane that in reference to a longitudinal cross section view bisects the longitudinal axis at a second angle in an opposite orientation to that of the first angle.

The downhole setting system of claim 13 , wherein the slip comprises an outer slip surface with at least one insert disposed therein, wherein the carrier ring comprises an underside surface in contact with the outer surface, wherein the lower sleeve comprises a shear feature, and wherein in the set configuration the lower sleeve is not in direct contact with the mandrel.
15 . A downhole setting system for use in a wellbore, the system comprising:
a setting tool assembly comprising:
a tension mandrel comprising a tension mandrel end;
a downhole tool comprising:
a mandrel comprising:
a distal end; a proximate end; an inner flowbore; an inner flowbore surface, a ball seat disposed on the inner flowbore surface, and an outer surface, a slip proximate the distal end; and
a lower sleeve proximate to, and also in direct contact with, the slip in a run-in configuration,
wherein in the run-in configuration the tension mandrel end is disposed through the downhole tool and in direct contact with the lower sleeve,
wherein in a set configuration the tension mandrel end is no longer in direct contact with the lower sleeve, and the tension mandrel end is removed from the downhole tool,
wherein the slip comprises an at least one slip groove that forms a lateral opening in the slip having a depth that extends from a slip outer surface to a slip inner surface, and wherein the outer surface is void of threads; and
wherein the inner surface comprises a first inner surface having a constant first inner diameter from the ball seat to the distal end, and wherein the inner surface has a second inner surface between the ball seat and the proximate end of a second inner diameter that is larger than the first inner diameter.

The downhole setting system of claim 15 , wherein the outer surface comprises a first angled surface and a second angled surface, wherein the mandrel further comprises a crest on the outer surface, and wherein the first angled surface is disposed between the distal end and the crest, and the second angled surface is disposed between the proximate end and the crest.
17 . The downhole setting system of claim 16 , wherein the ball seat is integral to the mandrel, wherein at least one of the slip, the lower sleeve, and the mandrel is made of a composite material, wherein the downhole tool further comprises a carrier ring disposed on the second angled surface, and wherein a seal element is disposed in a carrier ring groove formed in the carrier ring.
18 . The downhole setting system of claim 15 , wherein regardless of the run-in configuration or the set configuration a relative position of the ball seat is disposed between the carrier ring and the slip.
