Abstract

An apparatus for coupling an object to a support has an object member that includes an upper surface configured for attachment to a portion of the object, a lower extent including a generally conical object portion depending from the object member; and a notch formed in a portion of the lower extent. A support member includes a lower surface configured for attachment to the support, an upper surface, and a receptacle formed in the upper surface to receive the lower extent of the object member. The receptacle includes a generally conical support portion to receive and mate with the generally conical object portion. A latch member is selectively operable to engage the notch of the object portion to selectively secure together the object and support members.

Claims (27)

1 . An apparatus for coupling a firearm or optical device to a support, the apparatus comprising:

a device portion including:

a generally horizontal upper surface configured for attachment to the firearm or optical device;

a lower extent including tapered projection having a plurality of surfaces tapering to an apex depending downwardly and at an acute angle relative to the generally horizontal upper surface; and

a latch receptacle formed in a portion of the lower extent;

a support portion including:

a lower surface configured for attachment to the support;

an upper surface;

a receptacle formed in the upper surface to receive the tapered projection of the device portion, the receptacle including a plurality of receptacle surfaces tapering to a receptacle apex, wherein, upon mating together the device and support portions, at least one of the surfaces and the apices of the receptacle and tapered projection mate together; and

a latch member selectively operable to engage the latch receptacle of the device portion to selectively secure together the device and support portions.

2 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein:

the plurality of surfaces of the tapered projection includes a lowermost surface that extends downwardly toward the apex at an acute angle relative to the upper surface of the device portion.

3 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the latch receptacle is disposed in the lower extent of the device portion generally opposite the apex.

4 . The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the support is one of a monopod, bipod, or tripod.

5 . An apparatus for coupling a firearm or optical device to a support, the apparatus comprising:

a device portion including:

a generally horizontal upper surface configured for attachment to the firearm or optical device;

a lower extent including tapered projection having at least one surface tapering to an apex depending downwardly and at an acute angle relative to the generally horizontal upper surface; and

a latch receptacle formed in a portion of the lower extent;

a support portion including:

a lower surface configured for attachment to the support;

an upper surface;

a receptacle formed in the upper surface to receive the tapered projection of the device portion, the receptacle including at least one receptacle surface tapering to a receptacle apex, wherein, upon mating together the device and support portions, at least one of the surfaces and the apices of the receptacle and tapered projection mate together; and

a latch member selectively operable to engage the latch receptacle of the device portion to selectively secure together the device and support portions.

6 . The apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein:

the plurality of surfaces of the tapered projection includes a lowermost surface that extends downwardly toward the apex at an acute angle relative to the upper surface of the device portion.

7 . The apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the latch receptacle is disposed in the lower extent of the device portion generally opposite the apex.
