Method and apparatus for controlling wireless power transmission
A method of transmitting power of a wireless power transmitter, including a phase of sequentially transmitting a detection signal to a wireless power receiver a plurality of times through a plurality of transmission coils to detect that the wireless power receiver is present; a phase of identifying a transmission coil that has received the signal strength indicator transmitted from the wireless power receiver in response to the detection signal transmitted a plurality of times; a phase of selecting, as a power transmission coil, a transmission coil that has received the signal strength indicator having the most or largest value among the plurality of transmission coils that have received the signal strength indicator as a power transmission coil; a phase of receiving an FOD status packet from the wireless power receiver; a first determination phase of determining whether a foreign object is present in a charging area of the wireless power transmitter based on the FOD status packet; and a power control phase of controlling power transmission in a first power transfer mode when it is determined in the first determination phase that the foreign object is present in the charging area, or controlling the power transmission in a second power transfer mode when it is determined in the first determination phase that the foreign object is not present in the charging area.
1 . A method of transmitting power of a wireless power transmitter, comprising:
a phase of sequentially transmitting a detection signal to a wireless power receiver a plurality of times through a plurality of transmission coils to detect that the wireless power receiver is present;
a phase of identifying a transmission coil that has received a signal strength indicator transmitted from the wireless power receiver in response to the detection signal transmitted a plurality of times;
a phase of selecting, as a power transmission coil, a transmission coil that has received the signal strength indicator having the most or largest value among the plurality of transmission coils that have received the signal strength indicator as a power transmission coil;
a phase of receiving an FOD status packet from the wireless power receiver;
a first determination phase of determining whether a foreign object is present in a charging area of the wireless power transmitter based on the FOD status packet; and
a power control phase of controlling power transmission in a first power transfer mode when it is determined in the first determination phase that the foreign object is present in the charging area, or controlling the power transmission in a second power transfer mode when it is determined in the first determination phase that the foreign object is not present in the charging area,
wherein the wireless power transmitter does not stop charging but instead enters the first power transfer mode to maintain charging when the wireless power transmitter determines that the foreign object is present,
wherein the FOD status packet includes a first FOD status packet and a second FOD status packet;
wherein the first FOD status packet includes one of a reference quality factor or a reference peak frequency; and
wherein the second FOD status packet includes the other of the reference quality factor and the reference peak frequency that is different from the first FOD status packet.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
a second determination phase of determining whether the foreign object is present in the charging area based on information other than information included in the FOD status packet.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
a phase of receiving a reception power packet including information on a reception power intensity from the wireless power receiver;
a phase of determining reception power intensity of the wireless power receiver based on information on the reception power intensity;
a phase of measuring or calculating a power loss based on a difference between the determined reception power intensity and a transmission power intensity of the wireless power transmitter; and
a phase of correcting any one of a transmission power, a reception power, and a loss of power using the power loss.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first power transfer mode is activated when a NAK response to at least one of the first FOD status packet and the second FOD status packet is transmitted to the wireless power receiver as a result of the determination of the first determination phase.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second power transfer mode is activated when an ACK response to the first FOD status packet and the second FOD status packet is transmitted to the wireless power receiver as a result of the determination of the first determination phase.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first power transfer mode is for transmitting a fixed first power, and
wherein the second power transfer mode is for transmitting the negotiated second power greater than the fixed first power.
7 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the other information includes a power loss value.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
a second determination phase of determining whether the foreign object is present in the charging area, while controlling power transmission in one of the first power transfer mode and the second power transfer mode by the power control phase.
