Abstract

Methods are described for enabling 5G MBS operation. The disclosed methods overcome limitations in LTE and UTRAN MBMS operation, address the unique characteristic of 5G NR, and meet requirements of 5G MBS use cases. Disclosed are techniques for MCCH configuration procedures, including change notification procedures; triggers for MCCH acquisition; a RAN paging procedure for triggering counting for UEs in RRC INACTIVE; triggers for an MBS interest indication based on BWP switching; a timescale for scheduling of an MRB transport channel, a signal control channel, and a traffic channel; procedures for scheduling MCCH, including a scheduling configuration, an SCS, and a BWP; procedures for scheduling (P)TrCH; and procedures for scheduling MTCH.

Claims (30)

1 . A method implemented by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), the method comprising:

receiving, from a single cell, multicast control channel (MCCH) configuration information for a plurality of multicast-broadcast services (MBS) services, wherein the MCCH configuration information indicates a first MBS service mapped to a first MCCH logical channel associated with a first reception resource, and a second MBS service mapped to a second MCCH logical channel associated with a second reception resource, wherein the first MCCH logical channel and the second MCCH logical channel are from the single cell;

determining, based on a service associated with the WTRU, to receive the first MBS service;

receiving, based on the determination to receive the first MBS service, the first MCCH logical channel; and

receiving, based on the reception of the first MCCH logical channel, the first MBS service.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first MCCH logical channel is associated with a first reception resource, the second MCCH logical channel is associated with a second reception resource, and the first MCCH logical channel is received based on monitoring the first reception resource.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving MBS control information from the first MCCH logical channel and configuring, based on the MBS control information, one or more of a service data adaptation protocol (SDAP) entity, a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) entity, and a radio link control (RLC) entity.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the MBS control information comprises MBS scheduling information, MBS session information, a sub-carrier spacing (SCS), a bandwidth part (BWP), repetition information, a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration, a carrier frequency, a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) configuration, a radio link control (RLC) configuration, a media access control (MAC) configuration, a logical channel configuration, a neighbour cell list, or a radio network temporary identifier (RNTI).

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending an MBS interest indication associated with the MBS services.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the MBS interest indication comprises a bandwidth part (BWP) of a broadcast service.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the MCCH configuration information comprises change notification information, the method further comprising:

determining, based on the change notification information, one or more common change notification occasions; and

determining, based on the one or more common change notification occasions, a change associated with the first MBS service, wherein the first MBS service is received based on the change associated with the first MBS service.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the change notification information comprises: (a) a modification period associated with each of a plurality of MCCH logical channels and the common change notification is determined based on an MCCH logical channel with a shortest modification period, or (b) an MBS service of interest and the common change notification is determined based on a change associated with the MBS service of interest, or (c) a service type and the common change notification is determined based on a change associated with the service type.

9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the change comprises: (a) a change of a service type associated with the first MBS service, or (b) a change of an MBS service of interest associated with the first MBS service.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining an MBS frequency of interest based on a bandwidth part (BWP) configuration of the first MBS service.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the MCCH configuration information comprises MCCH scheduling information, a sub-carrier spacing (SCS), a bandwidth part (BWP), an MCCH change notification indicator, a carrier frequency, a packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) configuration, a radio link control (RLC) configuration, a media access control (MAC) configuration, a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration, or a logical channel configuration.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the MCCH configuration information is included in a system information block (SIB).

13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving the MCCH configuration information comprises receiving a multicast broadcast service radio network temporary identifier (M-RNTI) on a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH).

14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the MCCH configuration information comprises one or more change notification configuration parameter sets.

15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein each of the one or more change notification configuration parameter sets includes an MCCH modification cycle and an MCCH repetition cycle.

16 . A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) comprising circuitry including a transmitter, a receiver, a processor and memory, and configured to:

receive, from a single cell, multicast control channel (MCCH) configuration information for a plurality of multicast-broadcast services (MBS) services, wherein the MCCH configuration information indicates a first MBS service mapped to a first MCCH logical channel associated with a first reception resource, and a second MBS service mapped to a second MCCH logical channel associated with a second reception resource, wherein the first MCCH logical channel and the second MCCH logical channel are from the single cell;

determine, based on a service associated with the WTRU, to receive the first MBS service;

receive, based on the determination to receive the first MBS service, the first MCCH logical channel; and
