Abstract

An article of footwear having an upper and a sole structure includes a top midsole coupled to the upper, a sole plate coupled to the top midsole, and a front midsole coupled to the top midsole. The sole plate is disposed between the toe end and the widest section of the sole structure. A rear midsole is coupled to the top midsole and the sole plate and disposed between the heel end and the narrowest section of the sole structure. An outsole is directly coupled to the front midsole and the rear midsole. A toe end of the outsole extends beyond a toe end of the front midsole, and the toe end of the front midsole extends beyond a toe end of the sole plate. The toe ends of the sole plate, the front midsole, and the outsole extend beyond a toe end of the top midsole.

Claims (55)

1 . An article of footwear defining a lateral side and a medial side, the article of footwear comprising:

an upper; and

a sole structure that defines a widest section, a narrowest section, a toe end, and a heel end, the sole structure comprising:

a first midsole that is directly coupled to the upper,

a sole plate that is directly coupled to the first midsole,

a second midsole that is directly coupled to the first midsole and the sole plate and disposed between the toe end of the sole structure and the widest section of the sole structure, and

an outsole that defines a ground-engaging surface and is directly coupled to the second midsole,

wherein a toe end of the outsole extends beyond a toe end of the second midsole,

wherein the toe end of the second midsole surrounds a toe end of the sole plate, and

wherein the toe end of the sole plate, the toe end of the second midsole, and the toe end of the outsole extend beyond a toe end of the first midsole.

2 . The article of footwear of claim 1 , wherein the sole plate comprises a carbon fiber material.

3 . The article of footwear of claim 1 , wherein the upper has a plain knit structure.

4 . The article of footwear of claim 1 , wherein a sidewall of the first midsole includes at least one ridge.

5 . The article of footwear of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first midsole and the second midsole comprise a micropore foam.

6 . The article of footwear of claim 1 , wherein the sole plate includes a curved portion and a rear portion,

wherein the curved portion is an anterior curved portion and defines one or more radii of curvature, and

wherein the rear portion is relatively flat.

7 . An article of footwear defining a lateral side and a medial side, the article of footwear comprising:

an upper; and

a sole structure that defines a widest section, a narrowest section, a toe end, and a heel end, the sole structure comprising:

a first midsole that includes a foot-facing side and a ground-facing side,

a sole plate that includes a foot-facing side and a ground-facing side, wherein the foot-facing side of the sole plate contacts the ground-facing side of the first midsole,

a second midsole that includes a foot-facing side and a ground-facing side, wherein the foot-facing side of the second midsole contacts the ground-facing side of the sole plate, and

an outsole that includes a foot-facing side and a ground-facing side, wherein the foot-facing side of the outsole contacts the ground-facing side of the second midsole and the ground-facing side of the outsole defines a ground-engaging surface,

wherein a toe end of the second midsole surrounds a toe end of the sole plate, and

wherein the toe end of the sole plate and the toe end of the second midsole extend beyond a toe end of the first midsole.

8 . The article of footwear of claim 7 , wherein an outer edge of the foot-facing side of the first midsole includes a lip, and

wherein the lip is configured to contact the upper.

9 . The article of footwear of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the first midsole and the second midsole comprises a micropore foam,

wherein the sole plate comprises a carbon fiber material, and

wherein the upper comprises a plain knit material.

10 . The article of footwear of claim 7 , wherein the outsole includes a plurality of sections that are spaced apart from one another.

11 . The article of footwear of claim 10 , wherein a first section of the plurality of sections of the outsole includes a notch.

12 . The article of footwear of claim 7 , wherein a heel end of the first midsole extends beyond a heel end of the sole plate, and

wherein a heel end of the first midsole extends beyond a heel end of the outsole.

13 . The article of footwear of claim 7 , wherein the first midsole and the second midsole are visible when the article of footwear is viewed from a lateral side thereof.

14 . An article of footwear having a forefoot region, a heel region, a midfoot region extending between the forefoot region and the heel region, a toe end in the forefoot region, a heel end in the heel region, a lateral side, and a medial side, the article of footwear comprising:

an upper; and

a sole structure defining a widest section and a narrowest section, and comprising:

a first midsole that extends through the forefoot region, the midfoot region, and the heel region;

a sole plate that is disposed below the first midsole and extends through the forefoot region;

a second midsole that is disposed below the sole plate; and

an outsole disposed below the sole plate,

wherein a toe end of the second midsole surrounds a toe end of the sole plate,

wherein a toe end of the sole plate extends beyond a toe end of the first midsole, and

wherein a toe end of the outsole extends beyond the toe end of the first midsole.

15 . The article of footwear of claim 14 , wherein a toe end of the outsole extends beyond the toe end of the sole plate.
