Abstract

A laundry treating apparatus includes a cabinet, a drum for accommodating laundry, a base disposed below the drum, a motor for providing power to rotate the drum, and a heat exchange unit including a first heat exchanger, a second heat exchanger, and a compressor. The base includes a circulation flow path part through which air in the drum circulates, a compressor installation part spaced apart from the circulation flow path part and configured to allow the compressor to be seated thereon, and a water collection part spaced apart from the compressor installation part and configured to collect water condensed in the circulation flow path part. The motor is disposed behind the drum so as to be separate from and spaced apart from the base. The water collection part is disposed parallel to the compressor installation part in the direction in which the circulation flow path part extends.

Claims (48)

1 . A laundry treating apparatus comprising:

a cabinet;

a drum rotatably disposed in the cabinet and configured to accommodate laundry;

a base disposed below the drum, the base defining a space configured to at least one of (i) receive air discharged from the drum and guide the air to the drum or (ii) receive moisture condensed from the air;

a driving unit disposed at a rear of the drum and configured to rotate the drum, the driving unit being spaced apart from the base; and

a heat exchange unit comprising (i) a heat exchanger disposed at the base and configured to condense the moisture from the air or to heat the air and (ii) a compressor configured to supply a refrigerant to the heat exchanger to thereby enable heat exchange between the refrigerant and the air,

wherein the base defines:

a circulation flow path that accommodates the heat exchanger and is configured to guide the air to the drum,

a compressor installation space that is spaced apart from the circulation flow path and supports the compressor, and

a water collection space that is defined outside the circulation flow path and configured to collect water condensed from the air by the heat exchanger, and

wherein the laundry treating apparatus further comprises a pump disposed at the water collection space and configured to discharge the collected water from the water collection space, the pump being located forward relative to the compressor installation space.

2 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the compressor is disposed rearward relative to the water collection space, and

wherein the compressor installation space is defined rearward relative to the water collection space.

3 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a controller configured to control the driving unit or the compressor, the controller being disposed at the base and facing the cabinet,

wherein the pump is disposed between the controller and the circulation flow path.

4 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein a first side of the water collection space faces the circulation flow path, and a second side of the water collection space faces the controller.

5 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein the water collection space is defined forward relative to the compressor installation space.

6 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the pump overlaps with at least a portion of the heat exchanger along a left-right direction.

7 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the heat exchanger comprises:

an evaporator disposed in the circulation flow path and configured to cool the air discharged from the drum; and

a condenser disposed rearward relative to the evaporator and configured to heat the air cooled by the evaporator, and

wherein the pump overlaps with at least a portion of the evaporator along the left-right direction.

8 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein the pump is disposed forward relative to the condenser.

9 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the heat exchanger comprises:

an evaporator disposed in the circulation flow path and configured to cool the air discharged from the drum; and

a condenser disposed rearward relative to the evaporator and configured to heat the air cooled by the evaporator, and

wherein the water collection space and the condenser are disposed along a left-right direction such that the water collection space overlaps with at least a portion of the condenser along the left-right direction.

10 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the water collection space is defined rearward relative to the evaporator.

11 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the circulation flow path comprises:

an inflow duct configured to fluidly communicate with the drum to thereby receive the air discharged from the drum;

a transfer duct that extends from the inflow duct and accommodates the heat exchanger, the transfer duct being configured to guide the air from the inflow duct; and

a discharge duct that extends from the transfer duct and configured to fluidly communicate with the drum to thereby discharge the air from the transfer duct to the drum, and

wherein the water collection space is defined between the inflow duct and the compressor installation space.

12 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the water collection space is defined rearward relative to the inflow duct, and

wherein a width of the inflow duct in a left-right direction is greater than a width of the transfer duct in the left-right direction.

13 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein a portion of the inflow duct protrudes from the transfer duct in the left-right direction, and

wherein the water collection space is defined rearward relative to the portion of the inflow duct.

14 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the pump is disposed forward relative to the driving unit.

15 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the cabinet defines an opening at a front portion thereof, and

wherein the pump is disposed between the opening of the cabinet and the compressor installation space.

16 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the water collection space and the compressor installation space are defined forward relative to the driving unit.

17 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 16 , wherein the water collection space is defined forward relative to the compressor installation space.

18 . The laundry treating apparatus according to claim 16 , wherein the water collection space is offset from the compressor installation space in a forward-rearward direction.
