Home appliance
A home appliance includes a cabinet having a storage space formed therein; a door configured to open and close an open front of the cabinet; a panel assembly mounted on a front surface of the door; and a controller, wherein the panel assembly includes: a front plate forming a front exterior of the door and transmitting light; and a lighting device emitting light of a set color, wherein the front plate includes: a base layer; and a colored layer formed on one surface of the base layer and has a first color, wherein the front surface of the door has the first color when the lighting device is turned off, and wherein the front surface of the door shines in a color selected by a user when the lighting device is turned on.
1 . An appliance comprising:
a cabinet having a storage space; and
a plurality of doors configured to open and close at least a portion of the storage space, each of the plurality of doors comprising a door body and a panel assembly mounted on the door body,
wherein the panel assembly comprises:
a front plate that is made of a transparent material and has a first color, and
a lighting device configured to emit light toward the front plate,
wherein the appliance further comprises a controller configured to control the lighting device,
wherein the front plate comprises:
a base layer made of glass, and
a colored layer disposed on a rear surface of the base layer, the colored layer having the first color and being configured to transmit the light of the lighting device, and wherein the controller is configured to:
based on receiving a user input for selecting (i) a position of the panel assembly of one of the plurality of doors for changing a present color thereof and (ii) a second color selected by a user and different from the first color, control the lighting device to emit light in a third color that is different from the first and second colors such that the front plate of the one of the plurality of doors presents the second color,
turn on the lighting device to thereby make the front plate be seen by the user as the second color based on the light of the lighting device being transmitted through the colored layer, the second color corresponding to a color mix of the first color of the colored layer and the third color of the light emitted from the light device, and
turn off the lighting device to thereby make the front plate be seen by the user as the first color.
2 . The appliance of claim 1 , further comprising a communication unit configured to communicate with a remote device, and
wherein the communication unit is configured to receive the user input including the position of the panel assembly and the second color from the remote device and provide the user input to the controller.
3 . The appliance of claim 2 , wherein the remote device is configured to receive the user input based on the user selecting the position of the panel assembly and the second color.
4 . The appliance of claim 2 , wherein the remote device is configured to receive the user input based on the user selecting the second color after a selection of the position of the panel assembly.
5 . The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to:
adjust the third color based on the first color to thereby enable the front plate to be seen by the user as the second color.
6 . The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the lighting device comprises a plurality of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) including red, green, and blue (RGB) LEDs.
7 . The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the transparent material of the front plate includes the glass of the base layer.
8 . The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the front plate further comprises a pattern layer that is disposed at a front surface of the base layer, defines a texture of one of the plurality of doors, and comprises a transparent film made of a resin material.
9 . The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the front plate further comprises a protective layer disposed on a rear surface of the colored layer and comprising an anti-scattering film.
10 . The appliance of claim 9 , wherein the protective layer is made of a light-transmitting material such that the light emitted the lighting device is transmitted to the base layer.
11 . The appliance of claim 9 , wherein the anti-scattering film includes at least one of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyether sulfone (PES), polyimide (PI), polycarbonate (PC), or polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA).
12 . The appliance of claim 9 , wherein the protective layer includes an adhesive disposed on a side facing the colored layer and configured to strengthen adhesion of the protective layer to the colored layer.
13 . The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the front plate further comprises a deposition layer disposed between the base layer and the colored layer and made of metal.
14 . The appliance of claim 1 , wherein the colored layer is made of a light-transmitting material such that the light emitted from the lighting device is transmitted to the base layer.
15 . A door color control system comprising:
the appliance according to claim 1 ; and
a remote device configured to receive the user input and to provide the user input to the appliance.
16 . The door color control system of claim 15 , wherein the remote device provides:
a panel position selection menu configured to allow the user to select the panel assembly that desired to be changed to the second color on a screen thereof;
a color selection menu configured to allow the user to select the second color.
17 . The door color control system of claim 16 , wherein the remote device is configured to provide the color selection menu after selecting the panel position selection menu.
18 . The door color control system of claim 15 , wherein the appliance further comprises a communication unit configured to communicate with the remote device, and
wherein the communication unit is configured to receive the user input including the position of the panel assembly and the second color from the remote device and provide the user input to the controller.
