Optical module and assembly method thereof
An optical module includes a housing, a printed circuit board, an optical assembly, an optical interface joined with the optical assembly, the printed circuit board, the optical assembly, and the optical interface being disposed in the housing, an adapter to be mated with an external optical connector and disposed on an end of the housing, and first and second connecting part disposed on the adapter and the housing, respectively. The adapter and the housing are secured together through the first and second connecting parts. The optical interface and the adapter are configured to correspond to each other.
1 . An optical module, comprising:
a housing comprising at least a housing sidewall located at an end of the housing;
an optical interface in the housing;
an adapter coupled to the optical interface, the adapter comprising at least an adapter sidewall,
a printed circuit board disposed in the housing;
an optical assembly disposed in the housing;
a protruding part disposed on the adapter sidewall; and
a notch disposed on the housing sidewall,
wherein the optical interface is connected with the optical assembly, the adapter for coupling with an external optical connector is disposed on an end of the housing, and is fixed together with the housing by fixing the protruding part in the notch,
a space exists between the protruding part and the notch, the space being used for moving the adapter relative to the housing to adjust a position of the adapter relative to the optical interface before the adapter is fixed to the housing and while the optical interface is fixed to the housing, and
one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall is inserted along an exterior of the other one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall.
2 . The optical module of claim 1 , wherein a fixing glue is filled in the space between the protruding part and the notch to fix the adapter and the housing together.
3 . The optical module of claim 1 , wherein
the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall are parallel to each other and extend along an insertion direction of the one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall.
4 . The optical module of claim 3 , wherein
a gap exists between the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall, and
a fixing glue is filled in the gap between the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall to fix the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall together.
5 . The optical module of claim 1 , wherein
the adapter sidewall comprises two adapter sidewalls opposite to each other,
the housing sidewall comprises two housing sidewalls opposite to each other,
at least a portion of the two adapter sidewalls is inside of the two housing sidewalls, and
the protruding part protrudes from the at least a portion of the two adapter sidewalls.
6 . The optical module of claim 1 , wherein the protruding part is configured to restrict a movement range of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall.
7 . The optical module of claim 1 , wherein
the adapter sidewall comprises two adapter sidewalls opposite to each other,
the housing sidewall comprises two housing sidewalls opposite to each other,
the optical module comprising:
two protruding parts respectively disposed on the two adapter sidewalls; and
two notches respectively disposed on the two housing sidewalls,
the two notches respectively corresponding to the two protruding parts.
8 . The optical module of claim 1 , wherein the notch is shaped as an L, circle, oval, U, or polygon.
9 . The optical module of claim 1 , wherein the notch runs through the housing sidewall.
10 . An optical module, comprising:
a housing;
a printed circuit board, an optical assembly, and an optical interface coupled to the optical assembly, the printed circuit board, the optical assembly, and the optical interface disposed in the housing; and
an adapter for coupling with an external optical connector and secured at an end of the housing,
wherein the adapter includes an adapter sidewall, the housing includes a housing sidewall located at an end of the housing, one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall includes a protruding part, and the adapter is secured at the end of the housing through the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall,
wherein a space exists between the protruding part and the other one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall,
at least a portion of the space is filled by a filler to secure the protruding part and the other one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall,
the space is used for moving the adapter relative to the housing to adjust a position of the adapter relative to the optical interface before the adapter is fixed to the housing and while the optical interface is fixed to the housing, and
the adapter partly overlaps with and is secured to the housing sidewall after assembly.
11 . The optical module of claim 10 , wherein the other one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall includes a notch, wherein the space is disposed between the protruding part and an edge of the notch, and is configured to restrict a movement range of the adapter relative to the housing.
12 . The optical module of claim 11 , wherein
the position of the adapter relative to the housing is fixed after the position of the adapter relative to the optical interface is fixed.
13 . The optical module of claim 12 , wherein a first gap exists between the housing and the adapter.
14 . The optical module of claim 13 , wherein a second gap exists between the adapter and the optical interface, the first gap and the second gap being used for adjusting the position of the adapter relative to the housing and the optical interface before the adapter is secured to the housing and while the position of the optical interface relative to the housing is fixed.
15 . The optical module of claim 11 , wherein an area of an overlapping portion between the adapter and the housing sidewall of the housing is less than an area of the housing sidewall of the housing, and the notch is disposed on the housing sidewall.
16 . The optical module of claim 10 , wherein
one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall is inserted along an exterior of the other one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall.
17 . The optical module of claim 10 , wherein the protruding part is disposed near an end surface of the other one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall.
18 . An optical module, comprising:
a housing;
a printed circuit board, an optical assembly, and an optical interface coupled to the optical assembly, the printed circuit board, the optical assembly, and the optical interface disposed in the housing; and
an adapter for coupling with an external optical connector and secured at an end of the housing,
wherein the adapter includes an adapter sidewall, the housing includes a housing sidewall located at an end of the housing, the housing sidewall includes a notch, and the adapter is secured at the end of the housing through the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall,
wherein at least a portion of the notch is filled by filler to secure the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall,
a space exists between the adapter sidewall and the notch, the space being used for moving the adapter relative to the housing to adjust a position of the adapter relative to the optical interface before the adapter is fixed to the housing and while the optical interface is fixed to the housing, and
the adapter partly overlaps with and is secured to the housing sidewall after assembly.
19 . The optical module of claim 18 , wherein one of the adapter sidewall and the housing sidewall includes a protruding part, and the protruding part is configured to restrict a movement range of the adapter relative to the housing.
20 . The optical module of claim 18 , wherein the adapter sidewall includes a protruding part, and the protruding part is disposed at an edge of the housing sidewall.
