Folding multimedia display device
Various configurations of an electronic display, and devices incorporating the display, are provided. The display may have multiple portions connected along one or more axes, lines, points, or other connecting areas. The portions are movable about the connections. In various configurations, the display portions emulate different media and/or communication and computing devices. Two or more of the display devices may be coupled in an array.
1 . An electronic device comprising:
a first housing having a first side and a second side;
a second housing having a first side and a second side,
wherein the first housing and the second housing are rotatably coupled about a first axis;
a first display screen having a first area and a second area continuous with the first area,
wherein the first area of the first display screen is disposed on the first side of the first housing, and the second area of the first display screen is disposed on the first side of the second housing; and
a second display screen disposed on the second side of the first housing and having a third area, in which the third area of the second display screen has substantially the same total area for displaying information as the first area of the first display screen.
2 . The electronic device of claim 1 , further comprising at least one processor electrically coupled to the first display screen and the second display screen, the at least one processor configured to cause the second display screen to output content based on determining that the first display screen is in a folded configuration.
3 . The electronic device of claim 1 , further comprising at least one processor, and wherein the second display screen is configured to provide electronic signals to the at least one processor in response to touching the second display screen.
4 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first and second housings are configured to rotate 180 degrees relative to each other to transition between a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration.
5 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first and second housings are configured to rotate between 180 and 360 degrees relative to each other.
6 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first and second housings are rotatably coupled via a hinge disposed along the first axis.
7 . The electronic device of claim 1 , further comprising at least one processor configured to:
determine whether the first and second housings are configured in a first configuration, in which in the first configuration at least one of the first side of the first and second housings is provided a first functionality of a first device; and
determine whether the first and second housings are configured in a second configuration, in which in the second configuration the second display screen is provided a second functionality of a second device, in which the second functionality differs from the first functionality, and in which the first functionality is unavailable when the second functionality is provided.
8 . The electronic device of claim 7 , further comprising at least one processor configured to:
generate for display on the at least one of the first side of the first and second housings, a first content relating to the first device; and
generate for display on the second display screen, a second content relating to the second device, in which the second content is different from the first content.
9 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first display screen and the second display screen comprise organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs).
10 . The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein the first display screen is a flexible display screen configured to have the first area and the second area extend in a substantially same plane.
