Abstract

A system, method, and non-transitory computer readable media including instructions for a group music sharing session during a video conference. A video conference may be displayed on a user interface of one or more endpoint devices. A group music sharing session may be initiated with two or more members of the video conference. Participants of the group music sharing sessions may select one or more songs. The selected songs and music information may be retrieved from a multimedia server. A playlist comprising the selected songs may be generated and displayed on the user interface of the endpoint devices of the participants. A participant may select a song from the playlist. The selected song may be played simultaneously on the endpoint devices of the participants. The music information may be displayed on the user interface of the endpoint devices of the participants.

Claims (61)

1 . A method for collaborative music listening, the method comprising:

displaying a video conference on a user interface of one or more endpoint devices;

receiving, from a first member of the video conference, a request to initiate a group music sharing session;

transmitting invitations to two or more members of the video conference;

initiating the group music sharing session for a group of participants based on responses received to the invitations;

receiving song selections from one or more participants of the group;

retrieving the selected songs and music information from a multimedia server;

generating a playlist comprising the selected songs;

displaying the playlist on a user interface of one or more endpoint devices of the participants;

receiving, from a participant of the group, a song selection from the playlist;

in response to receiving the song selection, playing the selected song simultaneously on respective endpoint devices of the participants; and

displaying the music information on the user interface of the respective endpoint devices, wherein the music information comprises one or more of song information, artist information, artwork, or lyrics.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first member is given a status of group leader of the group music sharing session.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the status of group leader is assignable to any of the participants of the group music sharing session by a participant currently holding status of group leader.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computer device is one or more of coupled to the multimedia server via a communications network and co-located with the multimedia server.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the video conference is displayed on a first tab of the user interface, the playlist is displayed on a second tab of the user interface, and the music information is displayed on a third tab of the user interface.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

displaying a volume control on the user interface of the respective endpoint device a participant s;

receiving input to the volume control from the respective endpoint device of; and

adjusting a volume of the music on the respective endpoint device independently of a volume of the video conference.

7 . A device comprising:

a memory storing instructions;

a display; and

one or more processors operatively coupled to the memory and the display, wherein the one or more processors, when executing the instructions, are collectively configured to:

display, on the display, a video conference user interface for a video conference having a plurality of members;

receive, from a user of the device via the video conference user interface, a request to initiate a group music sharing session for the video conference;

cause invitations to join the group music sharing session to be presented to two or more other members of the video conference;

initiate the group music sharing session for a group of participants including the user based on responses received to the invitations;

receive one or more song selections for the group music sharing session;

retrieve, from a multimedia server, the selected songs and music information corresponding to the selected songs;

generate a playlist comprising the selected songs;

display the playlist on the display;

receive, via the device, a selection of a song from the playlist; and

in response to receiving the selection, cause the selected song to be played in synchronization on the device and on respective devices of one or more other participants in the group display information corresponding to the selected song on the display, wherein the music information comprises one or more of song information, artist information, artwork, or lyrics.

8 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the user is given a status of group leader of the group music sharing session.

9 . The device of claim 8 , wherein the status of group leader is assignable to any of the participants of the group music sharing session by a participant currently holding status of group leader.

10 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the video conference is displayed on a first tab of the user interface, the playlist is displayed on a second tab of the user interface, and the music information is displayed on a third tab of the user interface.

11 . The device of claim 7 , wherein the one or more processors when executing the instructions are further collectively configured to:

display a volume control on the user interface of the display;

and

adjust a volume of the music on the device independently of a volume of the video conference.

12 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the group leader provides input that causes at least one playback transport action comprising fast forward, rewind, or skipping tracks during the group music sharing session.

13 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising receiving, from at least one participant other than the group leader, a request to add a song to the playlist, and wherein the group leader adds, removes, or rearranges songs on the playlist.

14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein displaying the playlist comprises displaying a search or filter control usable to search for an artist, song, or album, and displaying an add control selectable to include a displayed song in the playlist.

The device of claim 8 , wherein the one or more processors when executing the instructions are further configured such that the group leader provides input that causes at least one playback transport action comprising fast forward, rewind, or skipping tracks during the group music sharing session.

16 . The device of claim 7 , wherein displaying the playlist comprises displaying a search or filter control usable to search for an artist, song, or album, and displaying an add control selectable to include a displayed song in the playlist.

17 . The device of claim 7 , wherein a participant joins the group music sharing session by submitting a request to join or by receiving an invitation from a current participant.

18 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions for collaborative music listening, the instructions when executed by a processor cause the processor to perform operations comprising:

displaying a video conference on a user interface of one or more endpoint devices;

receiving, from a first member of the video conference, a request to initiate a group music sharing session;

transmitting invitations to two or more members of the video conference;

initiating the group music sharing session for a group of participants based on responses received to the invitations;

receiving song selections from one or more participants of the group;

retrieving the selected songs and music information from a multimedia server;

generating a playlist comprising the selected songs;

displaying the playlist on a user interface of one or more endpoint devices of the participants;

receiving, from a participant of the group, a song selection from the playlist;

in response to receiving the song selection, playing the selected song simultaneously on respective endpoint devices of the participants; and

displaying the music information on the user interface of the respective endpoint devices, wherein the music information comprises one or more of song information, artist information, artwork, or lyrics.

19 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the music information displayed on the user interface comprises an indication of at least one of: (i) a currently playing song, and (ii) one or more upcoming songs in the playlist.

20 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving, from at least one participant of the group, an input to modify an order of songs in the playlist, and updating the displayed playlist to reflect the modified order.
