Abstract

Routing data in a data confidence fabric network. A confidence fabric adds confidence information to data delivered through the data confidence fabric network. A route is selected by considering inputs that include the trust insertion capabilities of nodes in potential routes, resource usage of nodes in the potential routes, and/or historical delivery times for the potential routes. One of the potential routes is selected as a selected route. The selected route may be based on best anticipated delivery time in view of the inputs.

receiving inputs at a routing engine operating at a node of a computing system, wherein the inputs include a capabilities graph that identifies trust insertion technologies of each node in the computing system, wherein the node is associated with potential routes for forwarding data in the computing system;

selecting, by the routing engine, a route based on the inputs including the capabilities graph and routing data, wherein each of the potential routes is associated with capabilities determined from the capabilities graph, wherein the routing data includes a resource usage of each of the nodes in each of the potential routes, and an average delivery time for each of the potential routes; and

routing the data in the computing system using the selected route, wherein each of the nodes is configured to change or not change the selected route based on changes in the inputs.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the trust insertion technologies include software trust insertion technologies and hardware trust insertion technologies and wherein the capabilities graph includes, for each of the nodes, the corresponding trust insertion technologies.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the routing data further includes historical data.

4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising updating the resource usage prior to selecting the route.

5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising discovering the capabilities of each node in the computing system, the computing system comprising a data confidence fabric.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the routing engine is configured to determine the selected route in advance of receiving the data or make a forwarding choice upon receiving the data.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the selected route includes has a fastest expected delivery time and includes required capabilities.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising annotating confidence information associated with the data to include the selected route.

9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining the potential routes for routing data, wherein the capabilities graph includes trust insertion technologies for each of the nodes in the computing system, and the routing data includes a resource usage for each of the nodes, and historical delivery times for each potential route, wherein the selected route is selected based on an anticipated delivery time that considers capabilities of each of the potential routes, resource usage of each of the nodes in each of the potential routes, and historical delivery time of each of the potential routes, wherein the capabilities, the resource usage, and the historical delivery time are combined to select the selected route, wherein the selected route is expected to have a fastest delivery time from delivering the data from ingestion to an application.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein selecting the route includes weighting the capabilities of the potential routes higher than performance of the potential routes or includes weighting the performance of the potential routes higher than the capabilities of the potential routes.

11 . A non-transitory storage medium having stored therein instructions that are executable by one or more hardware processors to perform operations comprising:

receiving inputs at a routing engine operating at a node of a computing system, wherein the inputs include a capabilities graph that identifies trust insertion technologies of each node in the computing system, wherein the node is associated with potential routes for forwarding data in the computing system;

selecting, by the routing engine, a route based on the inputs including the capabilities graph and routing data, wherein each of the potential routes is associated with capabilities determined from the capabilities graph, wherein the routing data includes a resource usage of each of the nodes in each of the potential routes, and an average delivery time for each of the potential routes; and

routing the data in the computing system using the selected route, wherein each of the nodes is configured to change or not change the selected route based on changes in the inputs.

12 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the trust insertion technologies include software trust insertion technologies and hardware trust insertion technologies, and wherein the routing data further includes historical data and wherein the capabilities graph includes, for each of the nodes, the corresponding trust insertion technologies.

13 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 12 , further comprising updating the resource usage prior to selecting the route and discovering the capabilities of each node in the computing system, the computing system comprising a data confidence fabric.

14 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the routing engine evaluates the potential routes based on capabilities of nodes in each of the potential routes based on the capabilities graph, a resource usage of each of the nodes in each of the potential routes, and an average delivery time for each of the potential routes, wherein the routing engine is configured to determine the selected route in advance of receiving the data or make a forwarding choice upon receiving the data.

15 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the selected route includes has a fastest expected delivery time and includes required capabilities.

16 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 11 , further comprising annotating confidence information associated with the data to include the selected route.

17 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 11 , further comprising determining the potential routes for routing data, wherein the capabilities graph includes trust insertion technologies for each of the nodes in the computing system, and the routing data includes a resource usage for each of the nodes, and historical delivery times for each potential route, wherein the selected route is selected based on an anticipated delivery time that considers capabilities of each of the potential routes, resource usage of each of the nodes in each of the potential routes, and historical delivery time of each of the potential routes, wherein the capabilities, the resource usage, and the historical delivery time are combined to select the selected route, wherein the selected route is expected to have a fastest delivery time from delivering the data from ingestion to an application.
